There was a firefight in Syria in the last few weeks. A few hundred operators paid by Russia attempted to take an oilfield held by US personnel and Arab forces.

The Russian convoy did not have AA, armor or air support. The Americans knew about the plan ahead of time and had artillery dialed in, along with 4 Apaches.

There were not many survivors.

That was on February 9th. When they attempted to cross the Euphrates River to the US side. The Combined SAA forces had armor (T-72), but it did not last long.

I’m not sure ‘Russian mercenaries’ means paid by Russia. Also plausible would be Chechens (muslim Russian mercenaries) paid by Saudi Arabia.
