I’m not so sure. Rocket Man has to know he is in the most dangerous position any human could possibly be in. He’s like a high wire artist that lives a life of total joy and luxury every day, but who also knows he only gets ONE bad day, and it could happen any time.
He’s young. He’s no fanatic. He’s also smart enough to know that the DPRK is a total basket case that cannot sustain itself indefinitely.
The fanatical old guard is dying out. He’s helped the process a bit by getting rid of quite a few of the more dangerous members. If he could defuse the whole situation, he just might get a golden parachute that will let him live out the rest of his years in a fair amount of comfort without worrying about assassins and coups.
I’m not saying it’s likely, but it is a possibility. Done right, reunification would be in everyone’s best interest.
