Gupta to Jeff Sessions: Medical marijuana could save many addicted to opioids
CNN Fake News ^ | 24 April 2018 | Dr. Sanjay Gupta

Posted on 04/24/2018 4:07:27 AM PDT by Magnatron

Dear Honorable Jeff Sessions,

I feel obligated to share the results of my five-year-long investigation into the medical benefits of the cannabis plant. Before I started this worldwide, in-depth investigation, I was not particularly impressed by the results of medical marijuana research, but a few years later, as I started to dedicate time with patients and scientists in various countries, I came to a different conclusion.

Not only can cannabis work for a variety of conditions such as epilepsy, multiple sclerosis and pain, sometimes, it is the only thing that works. I changed my mind, and I am certain you can, as well. It is time for safe and regulated medical marijuana to be made available nationally. I realize this is an unconventional way to reach you, but your office declined numerous requests for an interview, and as a journalist, a doctor and a citizen, I felt it imperative to make sure you had access to our findings.

Mr. Sessions, there is an added urgency, as we are in the middle of a deadly opioid epidemic that has been described as the worst self-inflicted epidemic in the history of our country.

The drug overdose scourge claimed about 68,000 US lives in 2017, just over 45,000 of them from opioids alone. Every day, 115 Americans die from opioid overdoses. It has fueled a decline in an entire country's life expectancy and will be remembered as a sad and tragic chapter in our collective history.

These are desperate times, and while some may consider making medical marijuana widely available to be a desperate measure, the evidence has become increasingly clear of the important role cannabis can have.

Correction to the above: I said Cannibis oil. I meant CBD oil!

[[ “Can marijuana help here? YES, and it does. I use Cannibis Oil which is a legal product and available on Amazon of all places. Research has proven its health benefits specific to inflammation and inflammation related diseases with zero side effects. I use it daily to manage my Ankylosing Spondylitis related symptoms and pain, it works wonderfully. I’m not “high” all the time as there’s no THC in it ...” ]]

I have used this before and it did work well but was quite expensive. I am going to check Amazon now that you have mentioned it. Do you care to give a link to the brand you feel is helpful?

Well there’s your problem.

You don’t know what signs and symptoms are attendant with actual withdrawl. Either that, or you’re conflating pathologies for your own reasons.

Be careful where you get it.....lots of strains...some worse some better so you have to be sure what you’re getting. Should also be from plants grown in the USA..and Soil matters.

I can’t take any opium based pain killers....terrible reaction. So having researched CBDS I’m seeing a well regarded Physician tomorrow who has no problem referring people to the use of CBDS since he’s founded some of the medical marijuana centers. He ought to know what he’s talking about and can answer some of my questions.

Please Tell me your vast clinical experience

Twenty plus years as a marijuana enthusiast, who hangs around with marijuana enthusiasts who became marijuana enthusiasts back when the draft was still a thing during the Vietnam War era. If marijuana caused a glimmer of the sort of issues you claimed it does, I would have 100% heard at least tales or rumors of it, if not experienced it directly, or watch one of my friends claimed by the horrors you describe.

Just admit you're spouting hyperbolic bravo sierra because you're virulently anti-pot and be done with it.

Why don’t you just admit your chronic impairment from your heavy drug use?

Excellent! And thank you. If you remember, let me know what he has to say and which particular (brand?) he recommends.

Why don't you just admit you're an imaginary internet doctor and a complete quack at that?

Well...it’s going to be interesting . I already know enough to certainly look closer @ CBDS.

Interesting side note.....these third world crap hole countries plant and raise crops of Marijuana ... About time our farmers reap those benefits and grow our own right here where we know what’s in the soil and what they’re planting.

Rather than tell you which one I bought, Here's a link to CBD Oil on Amazon that you can use.

I don't want to tell you which I bought because I don't know your situation, pain level or anything about you. You can find some decent reviews in each of the products listed which will tell you what those who purchased the product got relief from.

CBD Oil comes in different strengths based on the manufacturer too, so have to be careful there.

I can answer questions in FR Mail if you like.

And HERE are some good books on the topic.

I found "Healing With Hemp CBD Oil: A Simple Guide to Using Powerful and Proven Health Benefits of CBD" particularly helpful.

Benefits of CBD: I get the inflammation relief which alleviates my nerve pain, without the "high" of the THC since it's been extracted out.

I don't want to get high, I just want some of my pain eliminated to help me get through my day.

I don’t think you guys have read the article. It’s actually pretty good.

Cannabis works well on chronic pain. It just does. And you don’t have to get high. CBD oil made from marijuana and not hemp doesn’t get you high. It makes you a little sleepy so take it at night.

Thank you! Finding out new things by these links. What I took previously was CBD oil (without the THC; can be had either way is what the commentary reveals at the following link). I was not taking hemp oil.

Anyway, I tried it for anxiety, and thought it was beneficial, but not so hugely as to warrant the cost. Now taking Motherwort tincture (an herb) which is said to be good for anxiety, the heart, and Graves Disease (hyperthyroid).

We’ll see; thanks again! And, yes, I like Amazon’s commentary too :)

Colorado had the 18th lowest OD death rate among the states in 2016. Eyeballing the chart, it looks like CO had a smaller increase than most other states between 2010 and 2016. Also note that the states with the worst OD rates are prohibition states.

That was a long time ago when “everyone was doing it.” If it were happening today, I’d agree with you.
