To: Texas Fossil

Quercus petraea, commonly known as the sessile oak, Cornish oak, or durmast oak, is a species of oak tree native to most of Europe and into Anatolia and Iran. The sessile oak is an unofficial emblem in Wales and Cornwall.

Thank you for that. I know about trees that grow well in Texas and the native trees of Texas. But outside the region, I’m not very good at it.

The significance of the trees from Belleau Woods and the intertwined French & American national history should always be recognized. This was a thoughtful act.
