I think you are confusing JJ with Paul Robson.
The family cares. Bring them to the White House and the optics will be great. Trump will point out that we are beyond the laws of the Dems who wanted to keep races separate and didn’t want a black man to be involved with a white woman. It is chance to tell the history of the real racist party -— the one that refused to register Condoleeza Rice, which the GOP was happy to do. The one that started the KKK. I see this pardon as a winner. Obama didn’t do it. Trump did it. Race baiters can STFU.
It was an OJ verdict in reverse.
The verdict said more about the US than it did Jack Johnson or any “guilt” attached to him.
The law DID exist back then and Johnson absolutely took women across state lines and had sexual congress with them.
Please learn how to search the net, pet.
This plus the Haiti Q news drop will be enough to lock up 2018 midterms.
Back then, there was quite a lot of what was then called "WHITE SLAVERY"...which referred to women and under aged girls being kidnapped/seduced into having sexual congress and with a man, who them pimped them out to others. It did also apply to "consenting", but unmarried people, who crossed state lines and had sexual congress.
But it was NOT a "horseshit" law at all.
You can say that about almost every pardon case though. Nixon is the only one I recall being pardoned before he was convicted. I suspect the reason they want him pardoned may have to do with their opinion that he did not receive a fair trial. But there is also the fact that he was charged with something that would probably not be a crime today.
I ain’t gonna make rope no more!
OK...let's assume that you're correct here.Hopefully there's convincing evidence to prove that and that that evidence is available to DJT's legal advisers.
Have black people been unfairly convicted of crimes in this country...particularly 50...75...100 years ago. It's my understanding that the answer is "yes".Have black people, and white, been known to violate the law 50...75...100 years ago? My guess is "yes".
Evidence is key here...IMO.
There was, back then, a BIG todo about what was called "WHITE SLAVERY". Just as today, men would kidnap or seduce young women and under age girls, take them to another state, have sexual congress with them, and once "ruined", would them pimp them out. The law also was then applied to "consenting", UNMARRIED adults, which was considered to be "debauchery". And the woman, in the consensual pair, could also be tried and jailed, for committing an ILLICIT act.
Of course the great boxer will be able to vote and he’ll vote Democratic.
You really need to read some more, because you are missing the entire point.
He was railroaded. The girl wasn’t kidnapped. The girl wasn’t raped. She was just taken across a state line.
This was all about a black guy being the World Champion.
And, he lived the rest of his life a felon. That is not a small thing.
How about considering a pardon for soldiers in prison at Leavenworth on bogus charges from Iraq and Afghanistan. If you want to make a difference, do it there Mr President!
Johnson was guilty, many times over. He fled and did marry the woman he had been last with; however, many years later, he turned himself in and accepted the verdict and did do time.
Johnson had many different sexual partners,m sans marriage and openly lived with one, whom he married much later.
The Mann Act was applied to anyone that was caught and didn't have anything at all to do with race; though that probably did also factor into Johnson's conviction.
I think your confusing Jack Johnson with a famous black singeer and actor of the 20s and 30s
paul robeson
You might be thinking of Paul Robeson.
OTOH...white men were also convicted and sent to jail, because they broke this law; back then.
Was there a law against a woman taking a man across state lines for immoral purposes?
The Mann Act also covers consenting unmarrieds having sex, as well as adulterers; NOT just those who were kidnapping or seducing others to then turn them into prostitutes. READ THE ACT!
