April 21 (UPI) -- At least 10 people have died in Nicaragua since protests over proposed social security pension cuts started Wednesday, officials said Saturday.

The violence began Wednesday in the capital of Managua when protesters took to the streets setting fires and throwing rocks as police responded with tear gas, according to the CNN report. The demonstrators were protesting planned changes to the social security, which would result in workers paying more to contribute to the social security system, but receiving cuts in pension when they retire.

Thousands of students and workers had joined the protest by Thursday, the Financial Express reported. Among the dead are two protesters and a policeman killed in Managua on Friday. At least 100 people have been injured.

The violence has been the deadliest unrest since President Daniel Ortega returned to office in 2007. Public buildings were set on fire, the government said, and students barricaded a Polytechnic University campus in Managua.

Maybe they can get Venezuela and Cuba to send in some thugs to quell these pesky protesters. Or maybe float them a loan

On the Rio Tipitapa, one hundred thousand wait
To fall down from starvation, or some less humane fate
Cry for Nicaragua, with a corpse at every gate
If I had a rocket launcher, if I had a rocket launcher
If I had a rocket launcher, I would not hesitate

Just a prelude to when the US has its own pension and free stuff reckoning.

Just read through this forum on the mere idea that SS is a welfare scheme subject to political firestorm forces.

Danny Ortega hasn't run out of other people's money yet. They still have some, only less. And he's going to take it, only more. And he's going to redistribute it back to them, only less. And people are still unhappy, only more.

Socialism is a long slide down the hill to universal poverty. Enjoy the ride.

Only 10 dead? That’s worse than the Palestinian toll in the current attempted border invasion they call a demonstration. But, the Israeli kid-glove border defense is broadcast unflatteringly by the prime-time MSM, while the Nicaragua “disturbance” is just a minor event.

California is going down the same road with a mix of the failed nation states of Cuba, Venezuela, Mexico and Greece.

I wonder what killed the 10 people?

All of the US states are on this road. California is a bit farther down the road than most.

And mostly all of the state legislatures are doubling down on that failure by kicking the can down the road. Putting in the bills to shore up the pension funds that those funds will earn outrageously high rates of return on their investments.

Politicians hoping against hope that they will be out of office before the pension plans fail.

Blood will flow in the streets of our cities when these pension plans fail. The SEIU and the other government employee unions have demonstrated their tendency toward violence when they don’t get what they want.

When these unions are told that they will not be getting their taxpayer funded feather bed pension you can bet that the state capitols will see riots the likes of the Detroit riots of the 1960s if not worse.

And it is not that far away.

This forum is proof of what is happening. I am bombarded daily by post with people whining about all of the injustices in their life. The latest is gas prices. Then it’s medical care. Then it is the right to a good paying job. But always it is SS that causes the greatest out cry. The theme is always that the government owes someone that being a US citizen endows you to the right of a good job, cheap gas, free healthcare, and that it’s just greed on everyone else’s part that prevents it from happening.

Right now gas companies are greedy. People on this forum beleive we should force the owners of oil to sell it to the rest of us cheap.

Many on this forums beleive in government power and redistribution so long as it is their type of government. They no longer beleive in freedom because freedom may mean your neighbor will buy an import, a company might make a profit off of you, the mean old cable company may slow your internet, or you may loose your job or health benefits. These are all things I’m told on this forum that the government should protect us from because we we have earned it or we deserve it. Or That the companies are greedy, government is wasteful, people don’t care.

So yeah we are just one or two elections away from our own workers paradise.

Yes, the Social Security System is the most successful lie the government ever told.

The SS is and never was a retirement scheme. It is and always was a TAX Scheme.

The second big lie is that SS at one time had money saved up for paying benefits to people that had contributed to the system. There is not now nor was there ever a Trust Fund (For social security or anything else. All government trust funds are accounting gimmicks).

I always hear from people that if the government had not spent the money on something else there would be plenty of money to pay benefits. The money was always spent on something else, from day one. The government from the beginning had always intended to spend the money on something else. That was the purpose of the SS system. The pension plan was simply the means to sell the tax to a people leery of paying more taxes to the federal government.

The previous big lie, the progressive income tax, which only going tax the rich was only a little over 20 years old. It had of course been expanded to the middle class.

So, people could be expected to be a bit gun shy. The new plan had to be sold as a way to protect people from being old penniless and unable to work and provide income to widow and orphans.

The original plan was set up to collect lots of taxes and pay out very little in benefits. Under the original set up most men (the vast majority of workers were men) would die before they could begin receiving benefits. Their surviving spouse received a reduced benefit and would die shortly thereafter.

It was a beautiful plan to suck the life out of working men and their families. But then the suckers started living longer and the whole thing went to sh!t.

According to a friend of mine I just spoke with who works down there, the protests are over more than just Social Security, it’s as much about the dictatorship. And the protests actually started out peacefully until the police started attacking the protestors.
