National Titanic Remembrance Day, April 15

Interesting museum and cemeteries containing many who died aboard the Titanic:

Nova Scotia's Connection to the Titanic

Hubby and I happened to visit the The Maritime Museum of the Atlantic in Nova Scotia in 1998, the year after the 'Titanic' movie was released. At the Fairview Lawn Cemetery there is a grave with the headstone "Jack Dawson". He was a real person who was an employee on the Titanic... I believe he was a young man who worked down in the engine room.

James Cameron named the fictitious character played by Leo DiCaprio 'Jack Dawson'.

At the grave of Jack Dawson was a woman and her daughters and other teen-aged girls. The grave was *piled high* with bouquets of flowers, teddy bears, hearts, etc. The teen girls were loudly weeping over the grave, distraught at 'Jack Dawson's' death.

My husband and I talked to the mother, who looked pretty embarrassed at the spectacle. We said to her: "They do know that's not the same (fictitious) Jack Dawson depicted in the movie, right?" She rolled her eyes, and said something like: "Not really, they didn't understand even though I explained it to them. They begged me to come here and leave flowers and grieve Jack Dawson's (really Leo's) sad death." LOL!

*Sigh*

And these people vote...

May all of the REAL victims of the R.M.S. Titanic sinking rest in peace.
