Shop in person, you pay sales tax.

Shop on line, and in most cases, you have to pay shipping.
(I’m a small eBay seller and I charge shipping).

But governments can't take your shipping money and redistribute it to EBT cards or the cushy pension checks of retired government workers!

This has nothing at all to do with leveling playing fields or any concept of fairness. This is bloated government bodies looking for any means of grabbing cash. Anything to keep from facing fiscal reality. If it means some small internet seller out in East Oshkosh has to spend a massive amount of his life calculating percentages, writing checks and mailing them to a myriad of tax offices throughout the country, the governments think it is worth it so long as it continues to buy them votes.
