WASHINGTON — The United States and European allies launched strikes against Syrian targets, President Trump announced on Friday, seeking to punish President Bashar al-Assad for a suspected chemical attack near Damascus that killed more than 40 people.

Mr. Trump said Britain and France had joined the United States in the strikes, which he said were underway.

“These are not the actions of a man. They are crimes of a monster instead,” Mr. Trump, in a televised nighttime address from the White House Diplomatic Room, said of the Syrian attacks last weekend that he blamed on Mr. Assad.

He said the strikes of precision weapons sought to deter the production, spread and use of chemical weapons, which he called “a vital national security interest of the United States.”

Just the first hour of attacks exceeds a quantity of targets needed to “send a message” about chemical weaponry.

This is really “communication” intended for Iran, Hezebollah, Russia, and maybe also North Korea, in about that order.

The burden of Damascus. Behold, Damascus is taken away from being a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap.

I agree...between a huge-deficit budget, stupid foreign policy decisions, and an unwillingness to truly take it to the insurrectionist Left in this country, I’m starting to get less impressed with this presidency.

It’s not enough to affect my overall support for Trump, but I don’t trust these reports about chemical weapons and therefore I find this to be a risk not worth taking. However, I imagine there are back channels with Russia in use to make sure this can’t escalate into anything too serious, and maybe the real message is to Iran (butt out).

In any case, too many possible reasons for third parties to stage if not actually carry out these gas attacks, and as to those who say the government knows more, well I hope so but they knew false facts about Iraq and ignored obvious facts about 9-11. Different administrations, but now we have Bolton on the scene, really different?

Maybe Trump bought into this as a way to demonstrate he’s not Putin’s puppet. I don’t think that was necessary, Mueller has clearly uncovered almost zero evidence of any truly damaging proportions.

Let’s just hope they blow up a few planes and get the hell out of there before something goes wrong (this is the Middle East, after all, something is always going wrong).

And bringing on the end times as a justification? That is not a good foreign policy foundation.

I don’t think the Bible says anything concerning the destruction of the current city of Damascus. Look at the context of Isaiah 17. A few chapters before speaks of the kings of Syria and Israel threatening Judah. The destruction of Damascus prophesied in Isaiah 17 refers to the ruination of Damascus by Assyria. Just a couple a verses later speaks of the ruination of the northern kingdom of Israel, Ephraim, which was destroyed 2,700 years ago. I believe Isaiah 17 is speaking of events 27 centuries ago.

Number of Americans killed by Syrian gas = 0

Number of Americans killed by illegal aliens every day = 12

Hopefully our losses are limited to one carrier group.

We’ll find out in the morning.

“I guess Presient Trump is getting tired od winning. “

Spell check is your friend, but the President is “prescient” and he has the benifit of the intelligence and staff to help him in his decision making. I am amazed at all the people here, absent any facts regarding the decisions regarding the need for the attacks on Syria, who are already “in their armchairs” telling us that this isn’t the President they voted for. Give me a f*cking break! You have no basis for not supporting what Trump has done. Give the man at least 24 hours for the dust to settle and assess what has been done!

Damascus was not destroyed by the Assyrians. It was their regional capital.
