Fears of a U.S.-Russia conflict recede as Trump, Moscow and Macron dial back the rhetoric

BEIRUT — Fears that a major war could be imminent eased across the Middle East on Thursday after a flurry of tweets and statements by world leaders that suggested that they are looking for ways to de-escalate the sky-high tensions of recent days.

U.S.-led military strikes in retaliation for the Syrian government’s alleged use of chemical weapons against a Damascus suburb last weekend remained a distinct possibility, but there were indications that efforts to head off a global confrontation are gathering momentum.

In Moscow, the Kremlin sought to tamp down fears of a looming conflict with the United States by signaling for the first time in days that it might not carry out threats to retaliate against a U.S. strike.

Good. Don't let the Democrats get us into a war, just so they can blame Trump.

Yup. Again, there’s no right way to do the wrong thing.

Brinksmanship is back.

With an experienced player on the field.

Elbee Jay and Dean Rusk used to do it, but they weren’t very good at turning it to their advantage.

Once again, Trump impresses with maturity and restraint

Not without our help. I regard FR as the think tank for the Deplorable/Conservative movement. President Trump was listening to the Masters of War, even though it made neither logical nor logistical sense that Assad was responsible. He did something that during the campaign he told us he'd never do......announce he was pulling troops out of Syria instead of just doing it. It gave the bad guys time and opportunity to stage a crisis. President Trump was onboard with their lies until someone here got to President Trump and let him know that he was being played.

The question is, what went wrong before he did a real review of the situation? There must be a lot of people in that inner circle that are aching for us to stay in mideastern wars. I pray that President Trump doesn't make a mistake like that again!

I didn’t vote for Trump to undergo unconstitutional “brinksmanship” on my dime.

I love how Trump rolls. Always gets results and make his many critics look like yapping fools.

Good. My viewpoint is like Sarah Palin’s: why are we sacrificing our kids (for that sh*thole). If it were China or ISIS or Nokor sure, nuke the bastards.

Did he actually do anything unconstitutional, or just talk about it?

I may have misspoke about “unconstitutional” but all Trump’s saber-rattling does is embolden the Left who are already fighting to destroy national sovereignty in favor of their Global Totalitarian Government wet dream.

Syria can be safely withdrawn from. Let the Russians prop assad, using Russian treasure. The Russians aren’t in it for the oil, more likely for strategic location.

Don’t worry. Our allies in Europe will punish Assad for his use of chemical weapons:

It’s more than that. It’s a negotiation strategy to get other parties to show their cards.

Are you being serious or sarcastic? Assad didn't use chemical weapons, this time or the last time. And in that England poisoning, there's no evidence it was Russia.

Looks to me that a lot of the same people who were aching for that totally evil bombing and destruction of Libya want open all-out war against Assad now that he's winning.

The information zone is being flooded with false-flag ops. They are becoming more and more apparent with repetition and frequency.
