Break-up of California moves a step closer as billionaire gets enough signatures to trigger vote

The chance of California splitting into three has moved a step closer after a billionaire secured enough signatures to trigger a referendum on the issue.

Tim Draper, who made his money through Hotmail and Skype, has gathered 600,000 signatures supporting the change – way above the 364,000 needed.

Those who want to break up California believe it would boost educational standards and reduce the political power of Sacramento, the state’s capital.

Providing the state authorities agree the signatures are genuine a referendum on the issue will be held this November alongside other mid-term elections.

What a futile nothing burger. I assure you— there will be no secession or break up into three states . no way in hell.

Breaking up California would be awesome. It would turn a massive blue state into a blue state, a red state, and maybe a purple state?

It sends a message to the governor and the rest of left wing dummies in Sacramento. That’s worth something.

I agree it will probably never happen but with 55 electoral votes, it’s too powerful and the red folks have no representation in that state.

Would have an interesting impact on the electoral college. Coastal and southern CA is much more liberal than inland CA. Hypothetically we could see conservative EC votes coming from CA, of all places.

I’d be interested in seeing some proposed maps as to how they plan to do this.

For example, would much of the coast between San Diego thru San Fran become one state and all the rest would foreseeably be split into a Northern California and a southern California?

Heck, there’s time I’d like to see Minnesota split into two states, one involving the Twin Cities metro area and Duluth and then a separate state for the rest of us.

Three separate states - Northern California, Southern California and
California - would be created under the proposal backed by billionaire
Tim Draper

*******************

Not sure how this would be done. For Federal level thats four more Senators plus
Representatives. I guess they may under state law reorganize the state gov't into
equal entities.

I’d be for it. North California would be heavily blue. California (Central and Inland CA) would be very red. South California would probably be a slightly blue state with potential to be purple.

The Sacramental, SF, and Los Angeles area could form their own state and the rest of california could form the other. TBH SF could probably be argued to be rightfully apart from even Sac and LA but we don’t want to give lefties too much undue representation.

You are right about that. I see California as coming totally unglued governmentally. They are hopelessly in debt paying illegals to come to their state and they are going to default. No one else in this country will tolerate bailing them out— EVER. This will cause great unrest and I can’t wait.

Washington State is another good candidate. Split it down the Cascades and you have ultra-liberal coast and traditional conservative inland.

Better than just northern and southern. A simple north and south split still leaves the massive Bay Area and LA area populations in charge of the whole state.

Not going to happen.

Either mexico attempts to take over california, and we take over mexico and federalize california, or, california attempts to secede, and the feds take over control of california.

Either way, california remains a part of the US.

If you owe your allegiance to mexico, or have sympathy for all of the illegals who are infiltrating the US, move south of the border, NOW. Not north, not east, but south.

The gringos are pissed, and our politicians will not be able to protect you for much longer.
