The Russian Method of State Suicide: Their government methodically works toward self-destruction
American Thinker ^ | 04/11/2018 | Gary Gindler

It seems that Russia, in its search for a suitable method of collective suicide, has decided to compensate for America's supposed superiority in anti-missile defense systems with an enormously expensive one-sided arms race.

Russia decided to create missiles capable of almost 100% penetration of not just the existing, but also any future missile defense of the United States.  Of course, the Pentagon only shrugged – they know perfectly well about Russia's tiny military budget.  Well, if Russia wants to go bankrupt unilaterally, so be it.  Trump's administration will not interfere.  It will even help.

The fact is that the nuclear missiles currently in service in Russia can overcome any U.S. missile defense.  Not all of them, of course, but even a small percentage of missiles that penetrate are capable of wiping America off the face of the Earth many times over.  Conversely, U.S. missiles can overcome Russia's missile defense.  It's called parity, also known as "guaranteed mutual destruction."  It is a confirmation of the old military adage: in a confrontation between the armor and the projectile, the projectile always wins.

The self-destruction of Russia in the form of a one-sided arms race is happening in broad daylight.  Russia never concealed its intentions.  In the West, all this was understood a long time ago.  Western politicians are also not hiding the results of their analysis.  The autocrat Putin is no longer invited to important international forums, and no one among prominent heads of states visits him.  Why should they?  The country under his leadership has become an outcast, and everything Russian has become politically toxic – but, strangely enough, at the same time, a convenient scapegoat.

It is a confirmation of the old military adage: in a confrontation between the armor and the projectile, the projectile always wins.

I had to give up after that line.
There is a seesaw battle between armor and projectile
that goes back and forth, neither one always wins.

Yes, of course it is as you say.

i.e. The Israeli Trophy system of anti-tank missile protection has pulled ahead of the missiles....making Israeli armor the world’s most formidable.

I gave up when he wrote “Guaranteed Mutual Destruction”.

It’s been termed “MAD” (Mutual Assured Destruction) since the beginning.

Ignorance and inattention writ large.

My take on the Syria mess.

Trump is a master of leverage. He has been gaining leverage on Putin for a while now and Putin is starting to weary of it.

His oligarch pals are losing $$$ fast and so is he.

I think Putin is ready to throw in the towel and abandon both Assad and the Iranian mullahs.

Putin realizes that he, along with Trump, are despised by the global deep-state.

They are engaged in a Kabuki dance now, look for the Iranian mullahs to be overthrown very soon and this will leave Assad pretty much alone without very aggressive Russian assistance...which will not be forthcoming.

There will be an arranged exchange of missiles and the rhetoric will become pretty wild for a day or two but I think this is all close to being finished.

Trump made two important tweets this morning, both were meant for Putin.

This one is the stick...

“Russia vows to shoot down any and all missiles fired at Syria. Get ready Russia, because they will be coming, nice and new and “smart!” You shouldn’t be partners with a Gas Killing Animal who kills his people and enjoys it!”

This one is the carrot...

“Our relationship with Russia is worse now than it has ever been, and that includes the Cold War. There is no reason for this. Russia needs us to help with their economy, something that would be very easy to do, and we need all nations to work together. Stop the arms race?”

You can discern what is going on from just these two tweets...

BTW: IMO, Gulf Cooperation Council special forces are on the ground in disguise as jihadi in both Syria and Iran and are working with Trump...they will take them down from the inside.

I predict Iran will once again become close to the US, as it was before the Iranian revolution....thank you Jimmy Carter, you damned fool!

Well it appears that Russia might finally be changing their ways...

Russia has always been of the military mindset that quantity beats quality. Let your enemy waste money on R & D into the latest and most technologically advanced weapon systems while you dump all your resources into churning out huge quantities of slightly technologically inferior but "tried and true" weapons that might not be able to stand up one to one but will overwhelm the enemy in sheer numbers. Then they saw how ineffective that was in Iraq during Gulf War I and realized we would have destroyed them in any conventional conflict and have been taking technological parity seriously ever since.

Quality over quantity, or not.

Say it takes 100 missiles to completely destroy your target, and their defense system can fend off 90% of them. You need 1000 missiles then, right?

But you can make new missiles that have a 50% chance of reaching their targets. That means you only need 200.

But wait, your enemy now has to defend against 200 missiles, he has 5 times as many anti-missiles to throw at each incoming missile, so his kill rate goes up.

And with only 200 launch sites, instead of the original 1000, you are more vulnerable to a preemptive strike...

Someone doesn’t seem to know about or has done much reading of military history. Armor vs projectile. Neither one ALWAYS wins. Just another guy just blabbing.
