Gov. Doug Ducey: “National Guard Needed at Border”
White House ^ | April 9, 2018 | Gov. Doug Ducey

Posted on 04/11/2018 7:12:54 AM PDT by Cheerio

The most fundamental responsibility of government is to protect its citizens. This is an issue for all governors, but it has added meaning and complexity for border governors.

For years, Americans, particularly in border states such as Arizona, have been calling on the federal government to secure our border.

It is frustrating to hear the rhetoric from the talking heads on cable news on this issue. Despite what some may say, our southern border is not secure. That is the truth, plain and simple.

That is why I am grateful for this administration’s actions to address border security. The announcement by President Trump to call up the National Guard to support the mission of the Border Patrol is needed and welcomed.

Unfortunately, there are those who like to play politics with the issue. Those of us on the border don’t have that luxury.

We will see just how serious Ducey is when it comes time for him to appoint a replacement for McCain.
I still expect another Amnesty Senator.

Just make sure they have ammunition and perhaps grenade launchers.

I was talking to someone last weekend who insisted that putting the National Guard on the border is useless because they will not be armed, nor will they have the authority to stop border-crossers. According to her, they’ll have to just stand there while illegals waltz across the border, thumbing their noses at them.

True?

Yep, but they can report them after the fact.

The Guard will be armed depending
on assigned duties, but only for
self defense. Can’t very well go
after drug runners who are shooting
at (you), without the ability to
defend one’s self and shoot back.
They (the Guard) will not be able
to approach or detain border
jumpers, but the BP officers the
Guard is imbedded with will.
Drug runners have been known to
shoot at BP helicopters, I would
assume the drug runners would have
no qualms shooting at Guard helicopters
also.
