Progressive Illinois Rep. Declares Constitution Means Nothing

An Illinois technocrat has demonstrated the Progressive attitude about the Constitution and the Second Amendment. Representative Bill Foster has a PhD in Physics from Harvard. He was raised and earned his Bachelor degree in ultra-liberal Madison, Wisconsin.  In his view, the Constitution is a document that can be re-interpreted to mean different things every few years. That is true in a sense. Amendments to the Constitution can be put forward and passed any time. It is clear a constitutional amendment is not what Representative Foster is talking about. From chicagotribune.com:

Flanked by two area high school students, a pediatrician and the mother of a gun violence victim, U.S. Rep. Bill Foster told a community forum audience Monday the Second Amendment should be up for reinterpretation as new generations come into power.

“It always has been up for reinterpretation,” Foster, D-Naperville, said during an event focused on gun violence. “The technology changes, and the weapons thought to be too dangerous to be in private hands change. A civil war cannon is frankly much less dangerous than weapons we are allowed to carry on the streets in many of the states and cities in our country today. This is something where technology changes and public attitude changes and both are important in each of the generations.”

What does “reinterpretation” mean? It means you take the same words in the Constitution, and apply a different meaning to them. If you can do that, the Constitution only means what you want it to mean, when you want it to mean it.

What does “reinterpretation” mean?

It means Rep Foster should be arrested for treason. He's advocating to overthrow the government in violation of his oath of office.

I know how the rotten system works ...I’m stuck in illannoy. Fortunately, I’m in a relatively safe district with Peter Roskam.

The Constitution is the supreme law of the land. If it can be reinterpreted at any time, why can’t ANY law, or for that matter, contract (since at its heart, the Constitution is a contract between the governed and the government, and any legitimacy of the government is from the consent of the governed.)

I want this progressive to agree to a contract, say a mortgage, that can be “reinterpreted.”

Progressives are disgusting creatures who hate people, freedom, liberty, and especially justice.

Mark

So did he just inadvertently say that it’s OK to own a cannon? I want one!

Civil War era cannon are mostly muzzleloaders.

They can be owned, bought, and sold, in most states, without legal restraints.

A “civil war cannon” 10 pounder loaded with grape shot is a HELL of a lot more lethal than an AR-15.... either one at 100 yards. See Ballistics study US ARMY and BBC show on Civil War Ordnance and damage capabilities. What an octomaroon.

Self righteous SOB— let’s ask him will he guarantee the scum gangers in his district (some of his biggest donors) will have their firearms taken away.. first.

What part of the 1st Amendment is he willing to DROP? Hmmm?

He is likely quite willing to eviserate the First Amendment as well.

Progressives were all for the First Amendment when they controlled nearly all the media. Now, when they have a little competition, or, from 1900 to 1950, not so much. President Wilson was big on censorship, as was FDR.

FDR used the FCC (created during his administration)to insure that only pro-FDR administration views were heard on the radio.

It is one of the big reasons the Media today is so overwhelmingly Progressive.

A law that doesn’t mean what it says when it was written is no law at all.

But oaths mean nothing to them. They do not believe in God, either.

And therein lies the MAIN reason America is in the state it's in.

Great article, thanks Dean.

If you are able to change the meaning of laws then laws are useless and The People have no power. But that’s what progressives and Democrats want, isn’t it?

Progressive my ass. As Mark Levin says, “Progressivism is the bastard son of Marxism”.

Call the guy out for what he is, an anti-Constitutional Marxist posing as a “progressive” liberal.

He’s got the right credentials for that all right. Harvard and Madison, Wisc. Just as good as the Un. of Moscow and Lumumba University.
