Texas, Arizona hike number of troops heading to border

Texas and Arizona increased the number of National Guard troops they’re sending to the U.S.-Mexico border, the Associated Press reported on Monday.

On Monday, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) increased the number of National Guard troops Texas will send to the border as part of President Trump’s recent call to send military officials to defend the southern border against migrants and drug trafficking from 250 to at least 1,000.

On the same day, Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey (R) said that the Arizona National Guard would send 338 troops to the southern border.

The Arizona National Guard said that 225 troops would be deployed on Monday and 113 on Tuesday, according to the AP.

Abbott told the San Antonio radio station KTSA that Texas would increase the number of troops it deploys by 300 each week. He added that there isn’t a fixed date for the troops’ deployment and they could be stationed for “long haul.”

Trump said last week that he would be sending up to 4,000 troops to the southern border until his proposed border wall was built.

The troops have been barred from interacting with migrants or any people that Border Patrol agents detain. They also would not be armed unless necessary for self-protection.

The original announcement that Arizona troops would be deployed came after Texas announced on Friday it would send 250 National Guard troops to its border with Mexico.

Trump’s call for sending troops to the border came after he was heavily criticized by his supporters for passing a federal budget that only allocated $1.6 billion for border security.

The National Guard troops are expected to help border patrol lower the number of people and contraband entering the U.S. through the southern border.

I don’t think those are enough troops, either.

I wish the president would send active duty Marines and Army troops.....LOTS of them.

Or HI and/or MD where they have judge who think they can overturn a POTUS’s order and enforce it for the entire nation.

Why are the troops barred from stopping illegals coming into the country. I don’t think posse comitatus applies to a foreign invasion. If it did the military would be unable to ever defend us on U S soil

One of the things they can do is the mundane things such as
feeding, guarding, etc the illegals that the BP has to contend
with and thus freeing them to do more actual border patroling.

Only if they're allowed to do the things that the active duty military is supposed to be doing: defending the country ...

... you know, laying minefields, setting up machine-gun fields of fire, laying out mortar and artillery firing templates, stringing concertina wire ... those kinds of things.

The only thing I’ve read on that is the NG is there to support the Border Patrol, not to do their enforcement job.

I know what they do there, but why can’t the stop the illegals. They are foreigners. If the military can’t stop a foreign invasion then why are we paying for a military that only protects OTHER countries, not ours?

What are our troops supposed to do? They’re unarmed and not allowed to interact with the aliens. Wouldn’t a sign saying, “Do Not Enter” be just as effective? (sarc)

Can’t interact with illegals, not armed except for their own protection. WTF? This is theater, not border protection.

I don’t have that answer.

Here is some data on 2017 U.S. Customs and Border Protection activities.
It is a massive undertaking to say the least.
