1996...I am visiting Israel and our guide and bus driver are Palestinian. It’s a church organized tour and our minister wants us to get the Palestinian perspective. The tour is focused on archeological sites and so a lot of ruins are in our itinerary. One day due to ruin fatigue I am too tired to go with our group to see Jericho so I am sitting it out with the bus driver in front of a fruit shop. I bring up the bus bombings that had been happening and his thoughts since up until then he had just done his job and kept quiet, He starts by yelling there will never be peace in this country and that Arafat must have some Jewish blood in him (I assume due to his willing to negotiate with the Jews). This level of craziness lurks beneath a lot of them I guess but that moment captured the politics of the region for me.
Someone tried to tell me the other day that AreAFart was a Christian.
Reality is not their strong suit.
