Greetings to all at the Canteen!
To all our military men and women, past and present,
THANK YOU

Time to rock it!!
Howdy, Lathy.
WOOHOO! The weekend is here! Bet you’re ready for it, huh?
Felice and Bordleaux Bryant were well known country songwriters in the postwar era. Some of their best tunes were recorded by the Everly Brothers. This 1964 effort from the Bryants got some air play on the adult contemporary charts, but it didnt have the impact it deserved. Thats Pete DeAngelis producing with a string section. Pete later gained fame by writing the theme to the TV series Batman.
Good evening, Publius...thank you for Rachmaninov’s “The Star Spangled Banner”.
Are you keeping really busy with your writing?
Is it getting hot yet?
Headed for Tucson for a 3-day convention on Sunday.

This 1967 movie was a mess and represented a real error of judgment on the part of director George Roy Hill. (Hill was responsible for classics such as Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and the still wonderful The World of Henry Orient.) I recently tried to sit through it when it aired on TCM, and I turned it off halfway. Mary Tyler Moore spent the rest of her career trying to forget it. Bea Lillie was a fine English stage actress, and this film totally wasted her prodigious talents.
The title song by Sammy Cahn and Jimmy van Heusen, and produced by Andre Previn, was immensely clever. Describing something as Sodom-and-Gomorrable is the masters art of writing song lyrics, and had the film been as good as this song, it would have been worth seeing.
Were used to hearing Twenties arrangements of songs on old 78 rpm records where the unique sound of the era is submerged in aural mud. In this recording, we hear it the way the people of the age heard it.
Dude.....
