They will free-up Border Patrol to do their job & “interact” (deport) the illegals.
I did a stint in New Mexico with the National Guard (I was in the NJARNG) shortly after 9/11 to do recon and surveillance for the Border Patrol. We were a Scout unit and helped nab many dozens of border crossers. It was actually a fun deployment. Afghanistan and Iraq soon after were not.
