A Boston judge has cleared a group of climate protesters who were facing criminal charges stemming from a 2016 protest over a pipeline in West Roxbury, citing the necessity of their actions in a potentially landmark ruling.
“It may well be the first of its kind in a case involving climate change, in that it’s a judicial recognition of the measures that we need to take to address climate change,” said Andrew Fischer, an attorney for some of the defendants. “In that sense, it is a revolutionary step.”
The protesters, including Karenna Gore, the daughter of former Vice President Al Gore, were facing charges of trespassing and disturbing the peace after climbing into a construction trench. On Tuesday, prosecutors asked a judge to convert the criminal charges into civil infractions, saying in the event of a conviction they were unlikely to ask for any further punishment. After allowing the motion, Judge Mary Ann Driscoll found the defendants not responsible, saying she agreed with their argument that their actions were necessary to combat climate change.

If strongly held belief’s are now taken by a judge as sufficient to over-rule and ignore the law when people choose to break it then the rule of law no longer prevails.

This is a judge that has provided the justification for her removal from the bench because someone perceives it as necessary.
A judge is just a lawyer with too much power.

Judges are required to ENFORCE the law, NOT ignore it.

Maybe some of us “feel” that assassination is more appropriate than impeachment in her case. Yeah, that’s the ticket. We just need to find a judge who agrees with our argument.

Basically Obama’s Department of the Interior Bureau of Land Management sent their SWAT people (!BLM has a SWAT!???—Yes, they do, as does most US Admin Departments!) out to physically apprehend and kill if necessary those opposed to the BLM’s takeover. They corralled them into “Free Speech” zones miles from the ranch and told anybody that left them they would be arrested. Under what part of the US Constitution is that even allowed?
Totally out of control then—and a judge SHOULD have let all these people go but instead they prosecuted them for years!
The treatment of the ranch people was swift and brutal. The treatment of the pipeline people was soft and took forever to arrest even the most blatant trespass and damage of property.
Equal protection under the law my ass.

If the law doesn’t protect me equally to your Leftwing Storm Troopers and minions, then why should I follow your law in the first place?
Your guarded enclaves might be the FIRST place patriots gather to defend themselves!
It’s past time that we start censuring and removing judges for improper rulings. I can think of a LOT of them that need this oversight and repercussion.
