Conservatives fume after Sessions declines to appoint new special counsel

Conservative are boiling with anger at Attorney General Jeff Sessions for declining to appoint a second special counsel to investigate alleged abuses at the FBI and Department of Justice (DOJ).

In a Thursday letter to senior GOP lawmakers in the House and Senate, Sessions explained that he had appointed John Huber, a U.S. attorney from Utah who was first appointed by former President Obama, to work with DOJ’s inspector general to determine whether a second special counsel is necessary.

While Sessions says he will accept Huber’s recommendation on whether to appoint a second special counsel, the attorney general set a high bar for an independent investigation, saying it would require “extraordinary circumstances.”

Conservatives are apoplectic, believing there is more than enough evidence of wrongdoing at the FBI and widespread conflicts of interest within the DOJ to justify an outside prosecutor.

AG Jeff Sessions is not going to do a thing about the systemic corruption in the DOJ. The fact that he brings in Huber is proof that Sessions is wont to continue his lack of oversight of the very agency he heads!

Dump that feckless man ASAP. The most worthless attorney general that is ever held the office. A complete disgrace. Trump was suckered into appointing him. It was a terrible choice, which needs to be rectified

Rosenstein is a white hat. Watch and learn. The truth is coming out in April.

Rosenstein was confirmed 94 to 6. White hat? That vote screams Swamp Weasel!

Re: “I would also remind you that Rosenstein signed off on the FISA warrants.”

Are we sure about that?

Rod Rosenstein was Obama’s U.S. Attorney in Maryland when the Trump-related FISA applications and warrants were issued.

Re: John W. Huber - U.S. Attorney for Utah

Obama appointed John Huber.

Huber was re-nominated by Donald Trump.

Not one Democrat Senator voted against Huber.

Jeff Sessions appointed Huber to determine if a second Special Counsel was needed to investigate political corruption by executives in the FBI and DOJ.

EEE and Lakeshark,

OK, I might have argued with you previously, but I am willing to trust your instincts on Sessions, with trepidation.

My worry is as follows.

During Rosenstein’s time as US Atty in Baltimore, he refused to allow investigators to go after the DC Madam, Deborah Jean Palfrey. The U.S. Postal inspector sought authority to go after Palfrey because all of her hookers were using a single post office in Baltimore to mail their payments to Palfrey, who lived in California. Rod Rosenstein turned the USPS inspectors down.

At the time, Sessions was Senator from Alabama. And at least one other southern US Senator (Vitter, R-LA) was eventually revealed as one of Palfrey’s “johns”. Before his phone number showed up in Palfrey’s black book, no one could have thought Vitter would have been involved. But men are all sinners, ourselves included, none are beyond reproach, and Palfrey’s girls were said to be the most attractive hookers operating in DC.

Palfrey’s attorney later said he believed his client’s prostitutes were used in US intelligence operations to compromise targets and gather info. This, he said, is why Palfrey was able to get away with it for so long. She had cover, and her cover may have included Rod Rosenstein.

If you’ve ever made the drive from DC to Baltimore, you have to ask this. Why would Palfrey require her girls, who operated in the Nation’s Capital, to go all the way to Baltimore in order to mail their payment? Even during non-rush hours, the drive takes an hour plus. Could it be that Palfrey knew she had cover from the US Atty (and others) in Baltimore? I think it could be.

And, if that were so, what does it say about Rosenstein? It says to me that he is deep state dirty, low down dirty. The DC madam is not the only indication I’ve seen of it.

However, I will set aside my suspicions based on the learned viewpoint of fellow FReepers, seasoned ones like yourselves. Please understand what the stakes are here.

If Sessions is compromised and Rosenstein is orchestrating all this on behalf of those such as Brennan, Comey, etc., bad things are going to happen to America. Here’s how it could unfold. During impeachment hearings of President Trump, Huber announces that he’s looked at U1, FISA, Obama spying on Trump, and there’s nothing to it at all. In fact, Huber/Rosenstein will uncover crimes by Mike Pence, who will have to resign.

Republicans, having lost control of the House, will be helpless as Nancy Pelosi steps aside briefly allowing her caucus to elect Hillary Clinton as Speaker of the House. It will be a formality, of course, as Hillary will be Speaker only briefly while the Senate concludes its conviction of Donald Trump.

Voila! President Hillary Clinton. And you two will have helped make it happen. I will never let you live that down if it or anything like that happens.

“This prosecutor does have not just the experience and training to look for a criminal case, he has the ability to move a case of that kind. Moreover, if he finds that crimes were committed and many people of the FBI might be implicated, Sessions reserved the right to go ahead and appoint a special counsel," Turley said. "That's a powerful combination.”

Going on two years and no one can find evidence of a crime...And all they were looking at was the Clinton email scandal...They are just now going to look at the FISA court to see if they can find something...Even tho the committees have been on him for months to investigate...

Way last year while the IG was looking at the FBI's emails he found some disturbing stuff from the two lovebirds and informed Mueller that he needs to get them off his team to keep Mueller out of trouble...No crime there either...

Yet Sessions doesn't object to a Special Counsel investigating the entire Trump empire looking for that needle in the haystack even tho no crime was ever reported...

Sessions layed his cards on the table and we see he's been bluffing...And he's still bluffing...

RE: Sessions already appointed a special prosecutor

Correction: Sessions already appointed another insider to “investigate”

Congress has already recommended a number of charges to be filed. Sessions has done nothing about those recommendations. Rep. Gaetz and WH attorney Joseph di Genova both think that Rosenstein is calling the shots, covering his own behind and those of the Obama administraton who are dirty dirty dirty. As long as the “investigation” is under FBI/DOJ control NOTHING will happen.

You keep waiting for the "truth" to come out in December, January, March, "April" or "May".

First I agree Rosenstein is part of the swamp. But I have to ask, why the hurry? People called "conservatives" for reasons I can't fathom have been clamoring for perp walks since Jan 21, 2017. Is it conservative to toss the rule of law and join some tit for tat politization of the investigation and justice system?

One argument I have heard in favor is that Hillary (and presumably Susan Rice, Andrew McCabe, etc) are deep stating, and undermining Trump every day. Another argument is that Trump is breaking a campaign promise to "lock her up" and turning off the base thereby losing the house.

Neither argument makes much sense. The first one assigns too much power to a woman who breaks her wrist taking a bath. She's a comic strip, not a threat. She's not stopping MAGA (economic) The second leads me to my question, why the hurry? What's wrong with waiting?

Realistically there's not likely to be much more than a slap on the wrist for the bogus warrant to spy on the Trump campaign. They will say mistakes were made (minor slap on the wrist for McCabe for giving a FISA judge bad info) and said judge might be sanctioned, mildly. People should not get their hopes up on a major prosecution.

But that doesn't justify your deep state conspiratorial fantasy. The deep state is real enough, but it's really just another form of the managerial state, albiet in law enforcement. It's certainly not going to be tackled by Sessions even without your silly Sessions-compromised fantasy. It simply exists for its own sake mainly to protect millions of do-nothing pension-sucking drones.

" The second leads me to my question, why the hurry? What's wrong with waiting?"

1. Justice delayed is justice denied. It's an axiom, long established, by wiser, more experienced legal minds than any of us on this board.

2. Statutes of limitations. Congressman referred Clapper for investigation by DOJ for lying under oath. But the statute of limitations ran out a few days ago. Free pass for Clapper via Sessions.

3. Demorilization of many MAGA Trump Train people before midterms. Some will stay home in frustration. Dee State counting on that. Flipping the House is needed for impeachment.

Mueller, being used to swamp creatures (who are by definition cowardly), thought he could bluff GEOTUS with a pair of 2s. He didn’t know Trump was holding a straight flush. Now that he found out, he’s panicking, but it’s too late.

Sessions is doing a great job. Instead of going on camera everyday and talking tough he stays in the shadows and is actually accomplishing something. He was picked and has stayed because he knows what he is doing.

A special counsel is a waste of time and they are nothing but a distraction.

OK, you obviously think Sessions, Trump, and Rosenstein are executing a secret plan to prosecute Team Sedition. Other than "Trust the plan, because I said so," Please explain to me why

1. Clapper wasn't investigated for lying under oath to Congress, and the clock recently run out via statute of limitations a few days ago. Entirely Sessions' Decision.

2. Comey demonstrably gave classified info to his law professor buddy to leak, to start this whole Mueller SC investigation. It's a slam dunk case. Congress critters referred him to DOJ for prosecution. He's running around selling books, tweaking Trump's nose. Why hasn't he been arrested for it?

Laughing in your face, troll.

Mueller's efforts are getting weaker and weaker and further and further from the White House.

Look at the demeanor of the top Dems. Scarcely a smug raised eyebrow in sight.

Justice in the case will be a slap on the wrist. McCabe arguably already got his, Strzok was kicked off Mueller's witch hunt and forced to push paper. Lisa Page? No idea what happened to her, but probably nothing much. It is silly to expect more than that, especially for Hillary who surrounded herself with lawyers as she commited her crimes, all of which are protected as legal counsel and her non-lawyer underlings were all granted immunity.

That's how it works. Those results can't be undone. But the system can be improved slightly by IG reports suggesting some reforms. Ultimately it has to be fixed by Congress which is too busy doling out pork. So it won't be fixed.

Free pass for Clapper via Sessions.

Clapper was lying about the spying which again must be fixed by Congress. They won't because of "conservatives" who think that spying on Americans is good. The NSA would have to be dismantled and very few Congressmen will vote for that.

Demorilization of many MAGA Trump Train people before midterms.

Incorrect. You need to get out of the deep Trump Train forums and into the real world. In the real world nobody cares or even knows who McCabe is or what he did. They care about MAGA, first and foremost, then the wall. Somewhere down the list, maybe number 6 or 7, is lock-her-up. That won't happen, but it won't matter very much either.

Umm, not asking for a ZOT, but just wryly observing.

Why is a Freeper block-quoting from Vox to make his case?
