But some trail neighbors in Glencoe cited concerns over diminished property values, saying that if the invasive plants were removed, it would cause more noise since the plants might buffer street sounds, additional light coming into homes from car traffic on Green Bay Road and a decrease in security for children who will be crossing nearby tracks."

An environmental group in the Chicago suburb on Glencoe has riled up local homeowners who claim that the removal of invasive species may lower their property values and cause various other sundry problems. The excepted paragraph is a truly amazing glimpse into the liberal mind. I suspect most of the people protesting are leaders in their Home Owners Association.

Wouldn’t lowering property values lower taxes?

They could always raise property values before selling.

Let me tell you bout the birds and the bees and the flowers and the trees.....

Invasive species are problems and should be removed

Many places will not grant a building or addition permit unless all invasive are removed

Most Extension services have lists of native or friendly substitutes that can be planted after removal

This buckthorn appears particularly nasty

Replace the invasive plants with a native species of similar characteristics, you dumbasses.

My thought from the very first of this article. How many minutes of my life were wasted reading this, until I saw your reply. Thanks for speaking the truth.

YES! Replace them with “forsythia” bushes. Best bush in the world.

Beautiful yellow flowers very EARLY in spring

Full green leaves very EARLY in spring

Hearty, one of the LAST plants to lose their leaves in the fall.

Let them grow HUGE, or prune them back to nothing, hard to kill.
