She lost because Democrat Party Honcho Dean disenfranchised Michigan in 2008 for the audacity of trying to set a primary date that mattered.
Candidate Trump made nice to Michigan and Ohio just before the big election of 2016 and they reciprocated.

Political consultant and candidates can say, "We screwed up" once and they're done.
Come up with somebody else to blame and they can keep coming back again and again -- at least on some media outlets.
Who'd hire them for other campaigns if they're on record talking about how badly they messed things up?
