Trump will decide by May 1 whether to continue to exempt those countries from tariffs. …

Yes, with the ability to negotiate on an individual basis.

He probably holds stock in Rolaids because he also provided something to give the media heartburn.

Yes, with the ability to negotiate on an individual basis. Some Freepers need to understand what "ability to negotiate on an individual basis means to President Trump!"

Well, this is his game. Is he playing 4-level chess, poker or Simon Says?

If he’s playing this game (and it might be brilliant), he might have wanted to run the stakes up a little bit longer before the check bet. If his target is China, does this work?

We’ll see.

“He used the tariffs to get them to the table.”

Be quiet now. If the mediots find out about this latest Trump strategy, they and our Never Trumpsters will have severe migraine headaches.

Exactly what should have been done. It is lunacy to treat every country the same when they don’t treat us the same. You play fair, we play fair. You screw around, we slap on tariffs. Big incentive to play fair.

I’m of the opinion that we should adopt protectionist tariffs on the industries we want, regardless of whether other countries play fair.

And I’m okay if those other countries slap tariffs on our products.

Exempting some, invites game playing, like rebranding and channelling products through a third country.

Still, there is no one I’d rather have negotiating trade than Trump. Trump has been the only one preaching trade policy for many many years. I think he may be the only one who understands it, or at least the only one who understands it who hasn’t been bought.

Exactly, the tariffs are in place, just suspended. Very fun to watch. The exact opposite of a line in the sand. The suspension ends May 1.

Reports are already coming out that China is quietly working out things behind the scenes with the US.

Yup. Trump has explained this a dozen times, and linear thinking Freepers don’t get it. Bilateral reciprocity.
