A lot of people had very bad judgement.
Solzhenitsyn readily admits what he once was, and talks frankly about his arrogance as a Soviet officer, expecting an enlisted man to carry his luggage.
We should all be that lucky to have any mechanism that turned us around from moments like those.

No doubt there was vote fraud.
Not enough to make a difference - unless every ballot box in Russia was stuffed full of votes for Putin.
International and media observers said the election was not competitive and fair but affirmed that on the whole the result was legitimate.
No election in the world is going to be perfect.
