Mississippis Gov. Phil Bryant will reportedly appoint the state's first female member of Congress by picking the states agriculture commissioner to fill the vacancy to be left by Sen. Thad Cochrans upcoming retirement.
The Associated Press reported Tuesday that Cindy Hyde-Smith, who has served as the states agriculture commissioner since 2011, will step into the veteran Republicans seat. That announcement could come as soon as Wednesday.
Should Hyde-Smith be appointed, she will hold the seat for the special election on Nov. 6, when she would be backed by the GOP establishment against both Democrats and a challenger from the right in the form of grassroots-backed state Sen Chris McDaniel.

Another member for the Collins-Murkowski-McCaskill liberal lunch bunch?
To: Howie66; onyx
I’m not familiar with Mississippi politics but Hyde-Smith was a Dem until 2010.
Onyx, are you familiar with her?

Based on
this interview with Peter Schweizer from Breitbart about his new book, Mitch McConnell is bought and owned by the Chinese.
It's time for people like McDaniel to use their platforms to make a public issue of McConnell's ties to Chinese shipping and banking in order to put pressure on McConnell to back down.

McCaskill is a Democrat; Collins is from the liberal state of Maine and Murkowski is an anomaly. Not very likely you will find a liberal Republican coming out of Mississippi.

Mark Keenum would be a better choice in my book.
To: DAC21
I would think there would have to be a primary before the general election.

#12:
"Not very likely you will find a liberal Republican coming out of Mississippi."That may be somewhat true. And it was certainly true a few years ago.
However, Mississippi is run by the country club GOPe Barbour machine. To be a successful Republican in Mississippi you must first kiss Haley's ring (or certain other parts).
The Haley Barbour machine controls Mississippi, and it is not much different than Democrats when it comes to big issues of trade and immigration. Ask Chris McDaniel.
To: jazusamo
Looks like the GOP vote may be split, so that Mike Espy (D) could have a good chance to become the temporary Jr. Senator from MS.
If this scenario should eventuate, then Espy would serve until Jan. 2019, at which point the GOP is certain to re-take the seat.

Google 2014 GOP Primary Runoff race between Super RINO Thud Cochran and Conservative Chris McDaniel. You will find that the GOPe threw in with DemocRAT operatives in the state to defeat McDaniel by having DemocRATs cross over to assure that the RINO would win the runoff.
Detestable and Odious move to thwart the Will of The People by McConnell and his Establishment Cabal.
This is just more of the same.
