What did Trump have to do with him losing his congressional races, etc? Trump was still a TV gameshow host at the time Djou was either running for Congress or in it.
Blame it on Rep. John Boehner, the Republican Majority leader if anybody.

It’s because they’re flippin idiots. They get something in their head and even when told they are wrong and corrected very simply they do not comprehend and just stick by their original thought. It’s amazing how stupid and stubborn minded they are. I don’t know how they graduated high school even when their basic comprehension is so lacking.
So, a nobody one-term former US House Representative who now holds no office decides to change parties, and this is newsworthy because Trump, lol.
Never forget that this was the man who went temporarily elected to congress, his very first Act as a congressman was to vote with fellow Hawaii Democrats to call for a cloture vote on the don’t ask don’t tell issue. Which at the time was very hot news and featured a lot of military active-duty polling to see how the rank-and-file in the military felt about allowing open homosexuality in the services. Those polls among the rank-and-file revealed that it was a widely condemned move and not at all appropriate for our armed services. Yet Obama Lady Gaga and this guy were among those pushing for the enactment of a repeal of don’t ask don’t tell regardless of what the military members had to say, or felt about the matter. What’s the cloture vote was accomplished, this man led the movement to vote for the repeal of don’t ask don’t tell in the entire Congress. Citing himself being a supposedly member of the US Army Reserves. Again this was his very first and possibly most significant act as a member of the US Congress. To hell with him. May he rot in hell
