Knowing how jealously British government officials protect the 1st Amendment rights of citizens there can be no doubt that criminal prosecution soon awaits Mr Robinson.

They don’t have a 1st Amendment in the UK.... but we catch your drift.

Nope, unless they changed the law. British law says if you are standing 9 inches (I believe) or more off the ground, you can’t be prosecuted for banned speech. Therefore people stand on soapboxes (whatever) and talk about their grievances at Speaker’s Corner in Hyde Park every Sunday. It’s pretty cool! When I was there a London Councilman was talking about how he was being persecuted by some mayor who was having an affair with his wife! Real soap opera stuff!

“Knowing how jealously British government officials protect the 1st Amendment rights of citizens”

The spot is called Speakers Corner, because it is one of the few places that British citizens can speak their minds. It’s like the free speech zones on college campuses.

From Wikipedia: “Speakers here may talk on any subject, as long as the police consider their speeches lawful, although this right is not restricted to Speakers’ Corner only. Contrary to popular belief, there is no immunity from the law, nor are any subjects proscribed, but in practice the police intervene only when they receive a complaint.”

So how long before the Mayor of London complains about the content of the speech, and how it offends Islam?
