Do federal government offices still use "switchboards"? If so what do they look like today? I remember the ones from the 50's. I had an aunt who worked for a bank as a receptionist and she worked at a switchboard. It was a fascinating piece of equipment. With all those jacks and plugs.
That’s shorthand that everybody recognizes....
I think they now call them switchgear or panelboards.
