South Africa is the native country of the Boers, who have lived there almost as long as the descendants of the first settlers of Virginia or Massachusetts. While mainly of Dutch descent, there were significant numbers of German and French settlers among the Boers. All of them are more than three centuries removed from Europe. Unlike Australia or New Zealand, the Boers resisted British rule and were compelled to join the Empire.
They would be a better fit for the more heterogeneous United States than historically British Australia or New Zealand.
