Never let a good crisis go to waste.
The EU policy is “We’re going to “protect you” by preventing you from saying what you think.”
The EU claims it is representing ‘western civilization’ in the best traditions of the freedoms and rights the west has adopted since the days of the enlightenment.
At the very beginning of that process, and with a voice that resonated throughout the enlightenment and long after, was the philosopher Voltaire, to whom the following words have been attributed: “I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it”.
[While it has been shown that there is no written quote left from Voltaire that matches those words (it comes from one of his biographers), historians agree it is keeping with the philosophy Voltaire espoused.]
The EU and many nations in the EU lie about what they are up to when it comes to speech. Their’s is not about the enlightenment inspired “western civilization” but the dark night of civilization the author George Orwell anticipated in Animal Farm and 1984.
We have those who celebrate the anti-western civilization the EU is descending into, and try to impose it here in the U.S. as well.
And, despite Brexit, Facebook is already taking action.
