Summary of Florida’s New Anti-Gun Law
http://www.alloutdoor.com/ ^ | 03/12/2018 | Russ Chastain

Posted on 03/13/2018 6:40:03 AM PDT by Jed Eckert

Florida — and Republicans — are proving they have no interest in preserving liberty, nor in providing for the public safety. Instead, they have hopped on the bandwagon of gun control (and thus larger government) wholeheartedly. Florida’s congress hurriedly passed a sweeping law which reduces individual gun rights while expanding the powers of a police force which failed so publicly and pathetically to use its existing powers to prevent the Parkland school murders last month.

Under the guise of “public safety,” Florida Republicans have made instant felons of anyone who simply owns a bump stock, while making it a felony for anyone younger than 21 to purchase a firearm.

You can view details of the “Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Act” here and read the full text of the new law here.

With the swift passage of this — and the even faster signing by turncoat governor Rock Scott — Florida has joined the ranks of those states which enact illogical laws in reaction to events sensationalized by the media and spurred by emotion rather than facts.

In reading through the text of the lengthy bill, I find the following:

I don’t know what else to say, except to point out that if you still rely on Republicans to safeguard your rights, you’re sadly mistaken.

There's been a 21 year old age limit on the purchase of pistols for some years now.

Which should also be returned to 18.

......My comment is more regarding democracy in general. In a democracy you not only get the government you want. You get the government you deserve.

Agreed. Too often we fall into the trap of voting for "the lesser of two evils" or " the other guy is much worse, you may not agree with candidate x but he's still better than the other guy".

And then we have the outright liars, scoundrels and turncoats Like Gov. Scott and his fellow traitors.

Cicero nailed it:
"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself."
Marcus Tullius Cicero

Remember in the next primary to get that idiot out of the governor’s office!!!

Term limits, so he's already on his way out as Governor. Now he wants to be a Senator so he can back stab some more and help screw up the rest of the States. Not gonna happen if we can help it.

”Expands police powers by “providing a judicial procedure for law enforcement officers to obtain a court order temporarily restricting a person’s access to firearms and ammunition.” (This essentially gives even more power to the government agencies which failed utterly to prevent the murders which precipitated this law.)”

During a disaster such as a major hurricane, can this law give the police the legal authority to restrict guns from a broad class of citizens?

They’re both for gun control and at least I knew that with Sen. Nelson...unfortunately, just found that out about Gov. Scott.

Not from FL but assume this will be challenged. Hopefully in the first court case on this the judge will issue a stay. Hope this can be settled quickly in court.

What part of, “shall not be infringed” don’t they understand? Idiots. Lots of money and man hours will be wasted on getting this dumped.

Doubt it.

Florida Statutes 790.01(3) (a) which provides that you may now carry a “concealed ” weapon or firearm “on or about your person” during a mandatory evacuation “while in the act of evacuating”. No CWL is required – however, the weapon or firearm must be kept concealed

There is also another law (signed by Jeb, can't find the statute right now) that says cops can't confiscate firearms if you're evacuating or hunkering down with your firearms(Like what happened in New Orleans during Katrina).Just don't walk around with them uncased except on your own property.

Always remember that back in the 1980s the Brady Center (Handgun Control Inc) set their sights on Florida for an anti-gun push.

NRA ‘A’ rating means you vote the way NRA wants you to. If NRA supports a bad bill, and you vote against, bye-bye ‘A’ rating.

GOA, on the other hand, grades based on 2A principles. Much harder to get the GOA ‘A’ grade.

That said, Dana Loesch seems a fine woman :-)

SHAME ON THOSE AR 15’S FOR WHAT HAPPENED AT THE PARKLAND SCHOOL ?

WHY BLAME GUNS ? NOT GOVERNMENT POLICIES FAILURES

The inability to counter this perverted (they call progressive) agenda created by the democratic party ( in name only) has its goose stepping adherents in the media left make it up as guns and the NRA garbage through their swill mills. When it should be contested by GOP state and federal legislators who should be demanding investigative hearings exposing policy failures

DON’T MENTION THIS
Besides examining the conduct ( cops told not to enter other dept called and does those cops disciplined because they did) and arrangements of the Broward County Sheriff’s Dept made with this school district performance failures due to policy. A dramatic reduction in disciplinary incidents at Parkland were reported after the selection of Obama’s Chicago friend as school superintendent occurred which was publicly acclaimed.

Because that school district was receiving large grant money from Obama’s Attorney General because of those results. That many critics claimed encouraged criminal activity. Which should require Trump Administration US Attorney General beside find out why when the FBI knew that Cruz who should not been able to purchase weapons did. And review these grant programs instituted by the previous Obama administration.

“In a democracy you not only get the government you want. You get the government you deserve.”

That is only true if you have reasonably honest sources of information.

Anybody can be deceived, but that doesn’t mean that the deceived deserve what happens as a result.

Yes, you are right.

Scott is not a Bush era guy. He would help Trump, i think. Nelson definitely will not.
