Eladio Sanchez is unimpressed by the eight border wall prototypes looming over his house in Tijuana, Mexico, almost within spitting distance of where US President Donald Trump will visit Tuesday.
At age 30, he has already snuck over the border several times, and doesn't expect Trump's wall will have much effect on undocumented migrants like him.
Pointing to the only prototype with an angular barrier at the top -- a concrete structure built by Texas Sterling Construction Company -- Sanchez says that one might slow him down a little more than the others.
But, he told AFP, "you can get over it anyway."
"It's just a little more complicated. But people are always looking for a way to get over -- out of necessity, not because we want to."
In Tijuana, Trump's visit to the prototypes looks like just the latest slap in the face from a man who launched his presidential campaign calling Mexican immigrants "criminals" and "rapists" and has since driven US-Mexican relations to their lowest point in recent memory.
It's as if "he wants to come just to tell us he's here, that he's going to do what he promised with the wall," says Sanchez, who lives in a small gray house in a poor neighborhood that juts up against the border, across from Otay Mesa, on the outskirts of San Diego.

Ladders with a rope to descend are the likely way to get past the new 30 foot barriers. Concertina on top would really make that much harder. Concertina could probably be added later where needed, at reasonably low cost.
Just can’t fix the sh!thole they’ve made of Mexico, can they? I hate Mexicans.
You know why Mexico has that wall on their southern border?
They don’t want the competition from those other countries to sneak into the US. Who the hell would want to sneak into the shithole of Mexico anyway?

If Mexicans put half the energy into fixing their country as they do in destroying ours they might someday have a country worth living in.
True. I get so tired of hearing the word being misused, it has lost all meaning. They have made ‘racism’ the ‘do all’ and ‘end all’ of every argument they have...................
The reason Mexico wants a policy of open borders is that its economy and infrastructure can't support its ever-growing population. Their solution to this surplus population of indigent (and often criminal) elements is to dump them all on us.

Mexico is merely replacing those that SHOULD have been born here; but choosy mothers and their serial killers changed THAT equation.
To heck with a wall.
We need a DMZ with minefields, machine gun towers, and gunship patrols.
