Florida Senate rejects ban on assault weapons, votes to arm teachers

The Florida Senate rejected a proposal to ban assault weapons, and voted for a measure to arm some teachers, weeks after 17 people were killed in the deadliest high school shooting in U.S. history.

An amendment that would have banned assault weapons attached to a wider bill failed on Saturday in a largely party-line vote, in response to the Feb. 14 killing of 14 students and three faculty at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in the Fort Lauderdale suburb of Parkland.

The vote was 20-17 against the assault weapon ban, with two Republicans joining all of the senate’s 15 Democrats in support of the proposal, the Miami Herald reported.

The full bill, the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Act, is expected to pass the state Senate on Monday, then go to the Florida House.

After the Senate rejected the ban, Stoneman Douglas student Jaclyn Corin tweeted,“This breaks my heart, but we will NOT let this ruin our movement. This is for the kids.”

Fellow classmate David Hogg, who has become one of the school’s leading activists on gun safety, tweeted,“Elections are going to be fun!”

Also, an amendment to remove a provision to train and arm some teachers failed.

The bill includes $400 million in funding for schools to address mental health issues, the Herald reported.

Jaclyn, you poor immature brainwashed little puppy. This shouldn't "break your heart", kiddo. MAYBE when you get a little older you'll thank us for this. Remember if the 2A can be compromised what's gonna protect the others? Particularly the 1st, 4th, 5th, 13th, 14. Now to do something about that age restriction. Or better yet the Senate should look into the goings on in the Coward Cty Sheriff's Office, as well as children's services and whoever else dropped the ball when dealing with that POS Cruz.

Fellow classmate David Hogg . . . tweeted,“Elections are going to be fun!”

This baby dictator has had a lot of fun since 17 of his classmates were murdered in a "gun-free zone". He's obviously excited that he gets to be the center of attention for more than the 15 minutes of fame most fake celebrities get.

FLORIDA’S STATE SENATE ON;Y GETS IT HALF RIGHT
BECAUSE IT WASN’T GUNS IT WAS POLICY
THEY SHOULD BE LOOKING AT THAT CAUSE THIS

The inability to counter this perverted (they call progressive) agenda created by the democratic party ( in name only) has its goose stepping adherents in the media left make it up as guns and the NRA garbage through their swill mills. When it should be contested by GOP state and federal legislators who should be demanding investigative hearings exposing policy failures

Besides examining the conduct ( cops told not to enter, other dept called and does, those cops disciplined because they did) and arrangements of the Broward County Sheriff’s Dept made with this school district performance failures due to policy. A dramatic reduction in disciplinary incidents at Parkland were reported after the selection of Obama’s Chicago friend as school superintendent occurred which was publicly acclaimed.

Because that school district was receiving large grant money from Obama’s Attorney General because of those results. That many critics claimed encouraged criminal activity. Which should require Trump Administration US Attorney General beside find out why when the FBI knew that Cruz who should not been able to purchase weapons did. And review these grant programs instituted by the previous Obama administration.

I’m fed up with the improper usage of the term “assault weapon” by the print and TV media, as well as politicians and gun control activists.

It’s time for a standard definition that makes it clear that the term refers to a firearm that can fire (or be switched to fire) in full auto mode.

A bump-stock does NOT turn a semi-auto gun into an automatic, as each cartridge is fired only after a trigger pull; thus, it’s still a semi-automatic gun.

Also, just because a semi-auto rifle may look similar to a military weapon doesn’t make it an “assault weapon”.

I have had an AR-7 with several long magazines since the early 1980s. In Texas, it’s legal to openly carry a rifle when walking on the street, but I’d bet that if I took a long walk in my neighborhood with my AR-7, someone would probably call 911 and say I was walking around with an “assault weapon”.

Apologies to all for being long-winded...

"Assault Rifle" should be applied to the StG44—developed for the Nazis in WWII—and succeeding variants which fire multiple rounds with one pull of the trigger. With rare exceptions, they've been outlawed in the US for 70 years.

Otherwise, we'd have killings with "Assault Knives" and "Assault Clubs".

As for arming teachers, we need only one armed teacher per school—but keep which teacher a secret.

I hope that God-forsaken Broward Sheriff’s Dept has their own guns banned as well.

Why these pantywaist Broward cops still have jobs must also be addressed.

They dont just get guns, govt paychecks and a uniform, and told to wait in the car with the light on top until they can file for pension.

The cops have specific job descriptions----which includes getting paid to protect people.

Seventeen kids and faculty died and another dozen injured under their well-paid watch.

Florida officials need to ask "why?"

Teacher Coalition Seeks to End Obama-Era School Discipline Policy: ‘A Lot of Fear in Schools’
Brietbart ^ | 03.02.18 | Susan Berry
FR Posted on 3/3/2018 by Chickensoup

snip... In 2014, the Obama administration issued a “Dear Colleague” guidance that threatened school districts – whose disciplinary measures showed a disproportionately greater number of minority students affected – could be subject to investigation by the Departments of Justice and Education, regardless of whether the behaviors leading to the discipline were unacceptable.

Snip... At RCI, journalist Paul Sperry reviewed documents related to the Broward County Public Schools PROMISE program, the aim of which, he says, was to allow “thousands of troubled, often violent, students to commit crimes without legal consequence” in the name of saving minority and low-income students from the “school-to-prison pipeline.”

In place of suspensions, expulsions, and arrests for delinquent and violent behavior, the policy called for interventions such as “teen court” and “restorative justice.”

“The Florida Legislature … has instructed school districts ‘that zero-tolerance policies are not intended to be rigorously applied to petty acts of misconduct and misdemeanors, including, but not limited to, minor fights or disturbances,’” says the PROMISE agreement, signed onto by the school district and law enforcement.

In 2015, during a panel of the National Urban League Conference, Runcie said Broward County Public Schools had “the determination and tenacity to become the national leader in closing the achievement gap, and we will get this done … helping our kids in our classrooms and not sending them to courtrooms.” (Excerpt) Read more at breitbart.com ...

Broward Sheriff Scott Israel is the arch-villain of this disturbing expose of a $750 million dollar county police dept with 6000 employees.

Israel instructs us as to how the brain-dead liberal mind easily turns a civilized society into a free-for-all killing field.

It’s a good start that liberals are turning on him-—whining his cocamamie policies are getting the blame, not guns.

But its not nearly enough to condemn Sheriff Israel as incompetent. His monumental incompetence is only part of the story. The liberal culture of leniency, enshrined in Obama’s federal policy is the what encouraged Israel’s department to look the other way——to allow Cruz free to kill.

Israel sucked-up to Muslims, blithely telling Muslims he’s going to measure his success by “how many kids he keeps out of jail, not by how many kids he puts in.”

The simple-minded jerk can never utter a word that is not a complete indictment of his cockamamie thinking, and the deadly policy decisions he has inflicted on those he is paid to protect.

Israel’s inaction signed the death warrant of 17 youngsters and heaped lifelong heartache on their family and friends.

This well-paid, self-aggrandizing little jerk has been on the public stage countless times but he has yet to acknowledge his abject failures in this massacre.

He told Muslims he could “read the mind” of a lion in a poster on his wall....but the simpleton never did figure out the meaning of the alarming signs emanating from a violent young man.

And how, exactly, do they define “assault weapon”? Couldn’t any weapon be used in an assault?
