March 8 (UPI) -- President Donald Trump on Thursday, joined by steel and aluminum workers at the White House, imposed his promised industrial tariffs -- 25 percent on imported steel and 10 percent on foreign-made aluminum.
Trump signed the tariff proclamations Thursday afternoon in a meeting with industry workers and officials -- ushering in fiscal penalties that have drawn ire from world leaders and sparked fears of a possible trade war.
"A nation that does not protect property at home cannot protect its property abroad," Trump said.
The White House said Canada and Mexico will initially be excluded from the tariffs, which will take effect March 23 -- and will contain a clause to recognize relationships with other countries and offer some flexibility, while not imposing a national security or economic threat to the United States

Trump asked the steelworker with big guns (muscles) if he wanted to arm wrestle......lol
If the Democrats lose the Rust Belt, they can kiss the White House goodbye for years to come.
As an aside, I have been a hard core free-trader for years, but I have come around.
Fair trade...not free trade.

Over the target, taking flak. That’s our guy! MAGA! :)
“Fair trade...not free trade. “
We must be willing to leverage our national might to drive fair trade.
Sure, no tariffs or restrictions anywhere would be the ideal, just like World Peace is the ideal.
But that’s not the world WE live in.
Precisely. Plus there are certain industries where we simply have to stay involved in for reasons of National Security. What good is economic theory when other nations hold leverage over you?
Yup.
Not really.
The task is really quite simple.
Select the top three pardners to begin negotiations.
Select the top 5 products they export to the USA
Select 5 products where there are barriers.
At the table state bluntly, reduce your tariffs on these products or we will erect tariffs that will effectively end your exports to America.
You have 6 months
No tariffs in the world is a race to the bottom for about 90% of the world’s population. There’s always some regulated society, somewhere, that will produce goods at aver-lowering wages.
What good are cheap imports if no one is working and can afford to buy them?
I never hear globalists Ryan and McConnell answer the question even while they tout the virtues of unfair trade.
Trump is remaking the Republican Party whether they like it or not.

L’audace, l’audace, toujours l’audace!

Trump wouldn’t have done this unless he already had some partners who would reduce tariffs. Who were the last 3 foreign leaders to come to the US?
now that’s winning! thanks Mr. President.
Odd. They didn’t seem too irate when everyone was erecting barriers to US exported goods.
And even then, only to the extent that it doesn’t decimate critical industries in a given country.
