The difference in suicide rates has been higher for males than females, for quite a long time.
1950 was a high for both males and females, but even then the distance between the two rates was not dramatically higher, with males then much higher than females.
Both rates dropped similarly from 1950 to 2000, maintaining the general distance between them, and have risen similarly from 2000 to today.
My general impetus was to blame “feminism”, but the problem goes back too far.
