Historically, the party that occupies the White House loses seats in the midterm elections although there have been several notable exceptions to this rule. And if 2018 proves to be one of those exceptions and the Republicans gain seats in the midterms, Charlie Savage of the New York Times already has an excuse at hand: Russian meddling.
Savage provided this excuse to the potential sore losers a full eight months before the midterms in his March 3 article, What if Republicans Win the Midterms?

RATs already sensing they are gonna lose big in 2018 & laying the foundation for their favorite excuse “Mah Russia!”
On the other hand, if the Russians were really trying to sow chaos in our elections then they’d engineer a Democrat landslide in November and throw a wrench in Trump’s legislative plans.
If the sun comes up tomorrow, dems will rage at Russian meddling.
They are all ready to rage at Russian meddling, no matter what.
When Republicans win anything, anywhere, or anytime, Democrats will “rage.”
Unless GOP fixes their messaging, I really hold little hope at this point that they will not lose the house.
Watching the Saccone special election first hand tells me the GOPe still does not remotely ‘get’ 2016. Their messaging is not going to motivate the MAGA voter to show up.
Best thing for us is for them to obsess about fake Russian conspiracy thing and gun control.
Everytime they push on gun control they get creamed, and the Russia thing is nothing but a waste of their limited time and energy.
If the Russians hope for a GOP majority Congress, then I sincerely hope they do all the legal “meddling” they possibly can.
Until we get strong voting ID laws, the Russians will continue to interfere with our elections.
The Demoncrats will rage anyway. It’s what they do.
Of course they will ignore the fact that the majority of people reject their lack of anything that benefits real Americans. The party of “illegal aliens”.
