You never compromise with violence. You never compromise with intimidation. You never compromise with those who want to use it to extinguish freedom and democracy, because if you do then the very things for which you stand are extinguished.

Russian Embassy tweets on spy poisoning is a perfect window into how Russian officials lie, obfuscate, gaslight and troll to deflect Kremlin responsibility. Let’s review some Embassy tweets on the poisoning of ex spy #Skripal & daughter in the UK with a chemical weapon last wk 1/

You mean this:

BREAKING: Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov says Russia is demanding access to samples of the nerve agent that poisoned an ex-spy.

https://twitter.com/AP/status/973505119026335744
and if UK says no, then he says in that case we can not say if it was from our stockpile...

He is really saying that now:

Lavrov also suggested that Moscow would not meet Britain’s demand that it explain, by the end of the day on March 13, how the nerve agent London says was used to attack Skripal and his daughter in the English city of Salisbury.

“We have, of course, heard the ultimatum,” he said, referring to the deadline set by British authorities on March 12 after Prime Minister Theresa May said it was “highly likely” that Russia was behind what police are treating as attempted murder.

But Lavrov suggested that Britain had not followed proper procedures for marking accusations about alleged chemical attacks, and had refused to provide Moscow with materials related to the case.

He issued what appeared to be the clearest Russian denial of involvement in the March 4 poisoning of Skripal, 66, and his daughter Yulia, 33, who both remain in critical condition.

“We have already made an announcement...that this is all nonsense,” Lavrov said. “We have nothing to with it.”

Official RU:

FM #Lavrov: Russia has nothing to do with the alleged posioning of Skripal. We won’t respond to UK ultimatum as it ignores @OPCW procedures and London’s own international obligations. UK should’ve sent to Moscow a sample of the substance & shared information - they did neither

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov warned on March 13 that a new US strike on Syria [Washington threatened to do this on March 12] will have “grave consequences”.

Lavrov is working hard, the consumption of cigarettes are increasing and smoke leaks everywhere.

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson goes one step further than the White House by pointing the finger at Russia for the poisoning of a former spy who was attacked with a nerve agent. The White House condemned the attack earlier but didn’t name Russia.

Putin enemy found dead in London eight days after Skripal poisoning, as counter-terror police launch investigation.

The death of Grushkov just eight days after the attempted assassination of Sergei Skripal, the Russian double agent who sold state secrets to MI6, will cause alarm although Scotland yard has insisted there is no evidence to suggest the two incidents are linked.

Foreign Minister Julie Bishop has backed British calls for an emergency session of the United Nations Security Council over the poisoning of a former Russian spy on British soil, tightening the screws on Moscow as part of an international chorus of condemnation.

Ms Bishop joined United States and New Zealand counterparts in publicly condemning the poisoning of former Russian agent Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia in the English city of Salisbury, though she stopped short of saying explicitly she believed Russia was behind the attack.

She said she had been briefed by Australian intelligence and security agencies, who had been talking to their British partners.

Olivier Lepick: There is a kind of mystery around these molecules because the Soviet Union never really recognized that this agent existed, but the international community and the fact that some Russian scientists wrote some documents about this is making it clear that the agent was synthesized by the Russian military complex.

This is probably one of the most toxic — neurotoxic — agents that was ever produced for military use. But it’s the first time it’s been really used, either on the battlefield or like in this case — for a murder attempt. So it’s really a big, big shock for all the experts in chemical weapons.

If this is really Novichok, it’s really big news and a huge shock for the community of experts because it’s clearly a direct link to Russia because, I mean, no nonstate entities could synthesize such a toxic product.

We have to be very prudent before accusing Vladimir Putin and Russia.... We have to check the facts. But again, the only explanation I have, in this context, is that Russia is sending the same message that it has been sending in the past toward those who Russia considers to be traitors. And the message is clear: If you betray Mother Russia, then we will search for you and kill you are wherever you are, whoever is protecting you, and with the most cruel and horrible products that we can find.

That’s the only explanation I can find in this case.

Vladimir Putin has resumed wetwork in a fashion not witnessed in the Kremlin since the days of Joseph Stalin. Putin’s assassinations abroad over the last 15 years have been more aggressive than anything done during the Russian president’s KGB career. Moreover, his views on turncoats are well known: “Traitors always end badly,” he famously explained. In 2010, the year Skripal was swapped to Britain, Putin chillingly stated, “Traitors will kick the bucket. Trust me. These people betrayed their friends, their brothers-in-arms. Whatever they got in exchange for it, those 30 pieces silver they were given, they will choke on them.”

Today it’s apparent to all but the willfully blind that Cold War 2.0 is in progress and has been for some time. The greatest concern for the West ought to be the reality that the Putin regime does not feel constrained by the “Moscow Rules” of the last Cold War.

Today, Prime Minister Theresa May announced in Parliament her decision to expel Russian intelligence officers in the aftermath of an attack on U.K. soil. The attack, in which a Russian-developed nerve agent made Sergei Skripal and his daughter critically ill, should have prompted Corbyn to offer solemn condemnation of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s state aggression. Instead, Corbyn played perfectly into the hands of Russian propaganda messaging and again proved he’s a Kremlin stooge.

First, Corbyn asked if the British government had provided a sample of the nerve agent to Russia. This has been a Russian demand over the past few days but is one that is patently absurd. The British know that if they provide the sample, the Russians will be able to figure out how, where, and when the sample fell into U.K. hands, compromising British intelligence assets. The British also know that the Russians will just deny that the sample is what it is anyway, and either destroy it or replace it with another sample.

The basic point is that the Russians will play games. Corbyn must know this, and thus, it follows that his question was designed to deflect.

Britain is to expel 90 Soviet diplomats who have been engaged in active espionage, the Foreign Office announced last night. Another 15 Soviet officials, at present overseas, will not be allowed to return to this country. Many of these men are suspected of involvement in planning acts of sabotage. The expulsion order – affecting nearly 20 per cent of the 550 Soviet diplomats in Britain – is unprecedented in size and scope. It follows months of intensive investigation by the intelligence services, and the defection of a top KGB officer from the Soviet Embassy in London.

UK officials reportedly believe Sergei Skripal was poisoned via his car door.
They told The Daily Mail that the deadly Novichok nerve agent was smeared Skripal’s car door.
It could explain why both Skripal and his daughter Yulia were poisoned.

If Sergei and Yulia Skripal survive being poisoned by Novichok nerve agent, they may be left suffering illnesses that ruin their lives – which may be the point of the attack, security experts have warned.

The case of a Russian military scientist accidentally exposed to Novichok appears to show that even surviving the effects of the supertoxic nerve agent is horrific.

Andrei Zheleznyakov was said to have been injected with an antidote almost immediately, but a friend said he still went from being a jovial, creative man to suffering “chronic weakness, toxic hepatitis, epilepsy, severe depression and an inability to concentrate”, before dying five years later.
