A Brownsville police officer accused of bringing and harboring undocumented immigrants appeared in federal court in Corpus Christi Tuesday morning, court documents show.
Brownsville PD Officer Valerie Rivas, was arrested on Feb. 26 on the Padre Island National Seashore while being swept up in a illegal smuggling attempt that Border Patrol agents foiled over a two-day period.
According to a criminal complaint, Rivas boyfriend of 12 years is an undocumented immigrant from Tabasco, Mexico, who was set to be smuggled from Brownsville to Victoria. The complaint says when agents arrested the person who was to pick up the immigrants, Rivas, who was aware of the smuggling operation, stepped into the fray to find her boyfriend.

I would like to note in that area of the border often when there are incidents involving illegals and border crime, local law enforcement denies they have border issues with crime.
Good on the Border Patrol. Glad to see them doing an outstanding job.
20,000 unsecured bond for aiding and abeting a felony - judge must know something we peons do not
Is there such a law as Conspiracy to Commit Human Smuggling?
If the cop was assisting her coyote illegal alien boyfriend in bringing illegals into this country she was engaged in exactly that.
Brownsville PD Officer Valerie Rivas?
And her boyfriend is an illegal alien? Gezzz.

“We don’ need no stinkeen’ badges.”
This lady cop be goin ta jail.
I have no idea but seems like I remember the law about smuggling people in was made more serious several years ago so coyotes could be punished far more than they were. This woman may have been or still is a law enforcement officer but she is a coyote just like her illegal boyfriend.
Don’t you think she was giving her boyfriend a heads up on enforcement activies! She knew when and where they would be looking. She was acting as a spotter and should face severe penalties.
Brownsville is a long way from Padre Island.
Isn’t it fairly close to South Padre Island?
.
2 counties away.
A long ways on foot.
Thanks,I’m not familiar with the area but hear the Padre Islands are quite beautiful.
.
Oh I bet she was doing everything she could- and I bet she was making tons of money on the deal too. The more we secure the border the more the illegals will pay to be smuggled in, I hear the price is pretty high now.
Probably a “working” vacation for her...at her criminal side job...
South Padre is pretty close to Brownsville, about a half hour, if I remember correctly (long time).
Let me tell you how it works.
They tell a person in south America, we can smuggle you into the USA for $5000. Then the next guy says well its another $1000 to get you through mexico. By the time the coyotes are done with them they owe $10000. The families are held accountable. Get caught pay me, or when they do get here their forced it prostitution.
It is a form of slave trading, and the cheap labor express is the modern day slavery. Anyone that supports illegal immigration is supporting human trafficking and slavery.
