We hear a lot about income inequality today. Bernie Sanders nearly displaced the established democrat, Hillary Clinton, in the 2016 presidential primaries by being the more vociferous opponent income inequality. Scores of economists—armed with charts and graphs—argue that rising inequality will lead to the breakdown of society. In their article “The Unmet Promise of Equality,” Fred Harris and Alan Curtis write, “Today, the top 1 percent receive 52 percent of all new income. Rich people are healthier and live longer. They get a better education, which produces greater gains in income.”1 In his article “Income Inequality in the U.S. Is Even Worse Than You’ve Been Led to Believe,” Alex Henderson writes, “Although the U.S. remains the largest economy in the world, it is hardly the most inclusive. While Wall Street and Silicon Valley are thriving, OECD data indicate we not only suffer from harsh inequality but some of the highest rated.
Poverty cannot be abolished by formula; it can be abolished only by hard and intelligent work. We are, in effect, an experimental station to prove a principle. That we do make money is only further proof that we are right. For that is a species of argument that establishes itself without words.15

Opportunity exists for those willing to do the work to use that opportunity.
Equal opportunity does not mean enforced ‘equal’ outcomes.
You cant make people want to educate themselves.
You cant make people want to go into difficult fields of study.
You can only try to raise people with a solid work,ethic in general, and to take genuine pride in themselves as people, not the phony public school pride for being s special snowflake. Pride not to take charity ie living off of others, or think they deserve it.
But what most people become is largely because of themselves. They have no discipline. They cant delay gratification. They cant work hard and move up to other better places, they expect to be given these things just for existing.

Bernie Sanders isn’t opposed to private property.
He wants to take your private property to support his three homes and to give away lots of free stuff to his peeps at your expense. You got a problem with that?
He advocates lifestyles that breed poverty. Then he wants to take more and more to reward that perversity with incentives to maximize it at your expense.

I have no doubt that if I had been smarter...or worked harder...I would have had an even better standard of living.And if the opposite was true my standard of living would have been worse.
I have no problem with LeBron James earning more...a lot more...than I've earned.I also have no problem with having made a good deal more than some guy who couldn't do anything more than bag groceries at a Piggly Wiggly.
Is this the same Henry Ford who was the author “The International Jew” and who was on a Dear Adolf basis with the Fuhrer? If so I am not sure I would look to him as a guide on much of anything. But hey, that’s just me. Your mileage may vary.
The one unique aspect of America is the MOVEMENT up and down the social/economic classes. We have probably lost that already.....................
My father worked in the printing industry. They printed USAFI textbooks & answer books. I remember seeing them when I was a kid—over 70 years ago.
My brother also worked for years in the printing/graphics business. He had a payroll of 65 employees-—for YEARS.
I went to grade school, high school & took accounting classes at the college level.
I NEVER once saw a different set of textbooks for blacks vs white. I never saw different pens—notebooks—pencils—erasers—protractors, desks, chairs, tables, libraries, backpacks or anything even remotely associated with school in 2 or more different types. Same heat, lights, teachers, windows, floors, walls, lockers, etc.
I am beyond tired of everyone complaining that blacks don’t get a ‘good education’. There are some basic prerequisites for getting any kind of education:
Actually attending school, paying attention, NOT being disruptive, and doing the homework assignments are among the most basic. The attitudes of the blacks of ‘being an Uncle Tom’ if you you actually do proper studying, etc, has to end.
I have absolutely NO sympathy for those who wish to throw away the opportunity for a FREE education thru 12th grade, provided by taxpayers like myself.
I have owned 4 houses in my lifetime. Due to having ownership overlap & for the fact that I paid my Dad’s property taxes for 7 or 8 years before he passed, I find that I have paid more years of property taxes than my total age. I am 78. I have paid 84+ years of property taxes, and I didn’t own the first house until I was 26. At one point, I was paying on 3 homes at the same time. 2 were rented, but I still paid property taxes on them-—never one minute late, either. I have no children-—so that approx 50% of MY property tax bill is going into the pot to “PAY FOR YOUR LITTLE DARLINGS TO GET AN “EDUCATION”. I certainly would like to get a refund of that 50%-—NOW, especially , since I live on Soc Sec.
Since they refuse to play by the rules, I don’t give a damn anymore if they are not ‘getting an education’. You can lead a horse to water....etc. However- I actually do have horses & I DO know how to get them to drink. (Not really that hard). Too bad it isn’t as easy to get the ghetto kids to pay attention enough to get an education.
Until someone can prove to me that the books & all the accompanying items in schooling are created in multiple forms just to cause the blacks problems, I won’t change my stance.
I would dearly applaud ANY future candidate that shows up on a stage with 2 desks, 2 stacks of textbooks, 2 of everything else, and asks the audience “Which one is for the black kid & which one is for the white kid”? It is time this is being brought to the forefront.
Don’t even get me started on ‘Affirmative Action Hiring” & “Placement in colleges”. One serious rant a day is enough.
I am totally confused about your problem with Ford actually owning property. Many American own property. Why does that trouble you? Did he GIVE that property to Muslims? I don’t think he ever encountered a Muslim in his entire life.
How many jobs did Henry Ford create? How much did he change the industrial world as it existed at that time?
Same for Cyrus McCormick & John Deere. Yes, there really was a John Deere-—he was a blacksmith who figured out how to make a better plow. Eli Whitney & the cotton gin....The Wright Bros who went from a bicycle shop to flying an airplane. Catapillar -—Minneapolis Moline tractors—Oliver tractors— International Harvester for many machines. Have you ever been to a large agricultural machinery sales lot? Do you even know how your food arrives ON YOUR TABLE??? Get a grip & find out!!! You might learn something.
The people who were the highlights of the Industrial Revolution in America are to be revered-—certainly not hammered at.

It does now if it leads to votes. Heck, equality under the law has been replaced by equality of outcomes. (Just look at what Obama’s Promise program did to those teenagers and their families.)

I deal with this attitude from my black students every single day of my working life, and I can tell you that it is definitely a self-perpetuating phenomenon. I wholly concur with your assertion, FRiend.
I applaud you for being a teacher. I hope you can enjoy a good retirement....a long way away from your ‘students’.
I also realize that there is a big difference between being a ‘student’ and being an ‘attendee’.
Yes. You have to be educable.
1) You have to be willing to learn. That means you must have the humility to admit there are things you do not know.
2) You have to be willing to work. Learning isn't easy. Learning, whether of the 'book' variety or the 'practical' variety is hard work.
3) Not being an idiot helps.
