Then rule out living in Seattle, in and around the Mississippi River region, as well as Los Angeles, Alaska and near Yellowstone National Park. Those areas will experience bigger and more damaging quakes than SF. Even New York gets quakes. SF is prepared and built infrastructure to resist quakes, more so than most cities. My bet is on the Cascade region near Seattle for the next big one, or Yellowstone. If Yellowstone caldera erupts, we're all affected no matter where you live.

We just had a “swarm” of small quakes here in the East Bay near Mt. Diablo last week. They were in the range of 2.2 to 3.6, but there were dozens of them!
