I can't imagine that any state would leave their citizens with only one senator for any length of time. Should probably be unconstitutional.
There doesn't seem to be anyone checking the threads at present who knows what Mississippi law provides.

Chronic vacancies in the Senate was one of the reasons
cited for the need for the 17th Amendment.
Many State Legislatures were only in session
for a few months every year, and often they could not
agree as to who to send to Washington to represent them.
