Yes. As I recall, the last act, after a black minister (Murozewa?) and a white politician (Ian Smith?) got more votes than Mugabe, was that Mugabe used his Soviet-backed, Cuban-staffed "people's" army to push the others out and seize absolute power.
Mugs has not proved to be a talented economist or agronomist. But he and his concubines have done nicely for themselves in terms of personal wealth.
