Former Arizona state Sen. Debbie Lesko (R) on Tuesday won the GOP nomination to replace disgraced ex-Rep. Trent Franks (R-Ariz.), enabling national Republicans to avoid a potentially costly special election headache.
Lesko took a little more than a third of the vote in Arizona's low-turnout special election primary. She outlasted Phil Lovas, a former state representative who chaired President Trump's campaign in Arizona, and Steve Montenegro, a former state senator who came under fire in recent days for sexually-tinged text messages he sent to a staffer.

The pubbie male candidate, flirted with some woman, but that was it.
If that is supposed to be "the bullet", WOW, just, WOW.
The bullet was easy to dodge because it was fired from a pistol. (not an AR-15)
Seems like Democrats are winning back local seats lost in previous elections. but Republicans are holding on to congressional seats.
Franks was not disgraced.
They aren’t winning as many locals as the “blue wave” moron press wants you to think.
In last month, we won 2 in MN, 1 in LA, 2 in KY, 1 in GA.
We lost 1 tiny, tiny district in NH and one in CT (51 votes, total 3,000 voted vs. 12,000 in general).
Of course, all the news is on the “red” FL district that swung.
But this will be an R hold in the fall, meaning essentially 6/6 House seats. The only loss was AL, where Moore managed to get 685,000 Rs to stay home.
The pattern in these locals is clear. GA had 9% turnout. Most of them are way off even normal off-year or special turnouts. People are just sick and tired of elections, voting, and politics. They want the country to “just run” for a while.
I’d like to see a national shift where all states adopt a “no special election” policy with gov appointing state and or US House seats til the following November general election.
This was a primary...not a special election..the general special election is in a couple months for this seat.
“Franks was not disgraced.”
Would you concede that asking a subordinate to have your baby is not a good campaign slogan had he cchosen to not resign?
“Would you concede that asking a subordinate to have your baby”
You mean not everyone does this?
I wondered why some people at work gave me funny looks.
I’ve done it several times.
Matter of fact I am in correspondence with Shania Twain right now... :)
I believe the Constitution requires an election to fill vacant seats in the U S House of Representatives.
“I’m Trent Franks, and I want YOU to have MY baby. Please vote for me”
I don’t think that is mandated. It was often the case that such lower house seats, when vacant, remained open until the next cycle.
And why Parscale stepped up: he couldn’t take Mitt’s niece’s non-stop losses where it DOES matter.
The general rule is different than I remembered — I take it back.
Vacancies & Successors
When vacancies happen in the Representation from any State, the Executive Authority thereof shall issue Writs of Election to fill such Vacancies.
U.S. Constitution, Article I, section 2, clause 4
House vacancies can be caused by death, resignation, declination, withdrawal, or House action, but the Constitution requires that they be filled by election. The law concerning Members elected to fill vacancies varies according to when the vacancy occurs and applicable state law.
All states, territories, and districts require special elections to fill any vacant House seats during the first session of a Congress. During the second session of a Congress, however, procedures often vary depending on the amount of time between the vacancy and the next general election. Section 8 of Title 2, United States Code, provides that a state governor can cause a special election in extraordinary circumstances; namely, a crisis in which the number of House vacancies exceeds 100.
He asked her to be a surrogate and offered to pay her a lot.
Hardly the same as “Will you have my baby?”
“Hardly the same as Will you have my baby?”
Actually, it is not only the same, it is exactly the same as “will you have my baby?”
She was not offering to be a surrogate, nor had she ever been a surrogate, nor had she indicated that she ever wished to be a surrogate.
The money is beside the point. If you don’t know disgrace when it asks you to have it’s baby, I doubt you’d get that offering to pay money does not dilute the disgrace that is Mr. Franks.
The feigned confusion over “what’s the big deal?” is definitely amusing, and punctuates the disgrace.
Yes, but setting the date of the next election is up to the states.
