The man who killed 17 people at a South Florida high school had more than half his rounds remaining when he dropped his rifle and fled, a law enforcement official briefed on the investigation told CNN.
The shooter had fired about 150 times when he dropped his AR-15-style rifle and escaped from school property by blending in with fleeing students. He left 180 rounds of ammo unused, the official said.
"Investigators have found indications that the shooter may have tried to break a window, which leads them to believe he wanted to use the area as a sniper's perch to shoot outside.
The windows are hurricane-proof and didn't break.

Cruz idolized the Texas Tower Sniper, that was his inspiration.
He watched a documentary on that mass murderer and posted that he would ‘do the same’ nine-ten months earlier.

Fortunately, there was only one of him. No extra of him to set up a sniper position. He was a loner.
Unfortunately, the one of him there was invaded the school and killed 17, unobstructed by the Broward County Sheriffs.
No one was stopping him; certainly not the Broward Sheriff’s men.
Thank God for hurricanes and upgraded building codes. Had it not been for that tough glass, he could have shot 100+ more kids.

And that’s exactly why the rampage stopped- he was unable to break the glass.
Slightly off topic but I just read that Nikolas texted the friend he was staying with “Yo” one minute before he arrived at the school. I’m not saying the other kid had any inkling about what he planned I just find it strange that Cruz reached out to this kid, who was in the school at the time, with a meaningless text right before doing what he did.
This promise in May of 2017 to copycat the 1966 Tower shooter, and the “I want to be a professional school shooter’ post dated September of 2017- in combination, will kill any chance he had of pleading an insanity defense in the state of Florida.

The man accused of slaughtering 17 students in Florida apparently had his sights set on a mass campus shooting 9 months ago, and made that clear in a YouTube comment.
Nikolas Cruz posted on a video months ago, saying he was going to mimic the first mass school shooting in America. Charles Whitman shocked the nation in 1966 when he killed 17 people while perched on the University of Texas bell tower and began unloading rounds from his rifle. It was the first mass shooting of its kind in American history.
Cruz, who allegedly also killed 17, posted this eerie comment ... “I am going to [do] what he did.” The comment was dated 9 months ago.
He went on to write, “f*** antifa wish to kill as many as I can.” This second comment was posted 6 months ago, which suggests these were not passing thoughts. He returned to the same video to reiterate these hateful thoughts. He added, “I am going to kill them in the future.”

Could have been a code. The kid should be questioned.
I thought we were earlier told he fired 30 rounds. And what is an "AR-15 style" rifle? Any rifle that's black? Just what was the weapon used. Is tat story changing too?
What, was cruz a man or a child? And did he kill men and women? Or children?
Whitman used a bolt action hunting rifle with a 3 round capacity. It has a scope on it.
His rampage was stopped when ordinary citizens started shooting back pinning him down long enough for a police officer to kill him.

Nikolas Cruz is a 19 year old deranged man who has been emotionally warped his entire life. He killed 14 children and 3 adults.
It’s funny how Sheriff Israel’s two sons’ football coach, Aaron Fei, could have stopped Cruz had he been armed. Instead he died a hero protecting the lives of his students.
At the same time, Sheriff Israel forbids his heavily armed deputies wearing kevlar vests to enter and stop the carnage.
Have we seen an real evidence Cruz was actually the shooter? Seems to me we have seen plenty of evidence he was out of control and could be a school shooter but is there video or even an eyewitness that ID’d him?
Seems like he intended to kill hundreds. Good thing he isn’t a better shot.
If only they had been wearing those bulletproof bodycams that make you immortal, the sheriff would have allowed them to go in.
Surely, there are multiple witnesses, video surveil and Cruz did confess.
And since the FDLE has hopefully seized that tape from the BSO or whomever seized it as evidence, we will eventually have confirmation.
Maybe the deputies should have had shields made of window glass.
