The Broward County Sheriff Is Everything That’s Wrong with American Authority
nro ^ | Rich Lowry

Posted on 02/27/2018 8:49:46 AM PST by RoosterRedux

Sheriff Scott Israel's performance has been disgraceful.

The sheriff is an outsized figure in the American imagination. He is Wyatt Earp, shooting it out with outlaws at the O.K. Corral. He is John Wayne, a lonely instrument of frontier justice. He is Rick Grimes, the resourceful survivor of a zombie apocalypse in “The Walking Dead.”

Now, along comes Scott Israel to remind us, despite the legend, how a sheriff can be a hack politician whose primary concern is protecting his own political reputation and little fief.

The Broward County sheriff, whose disgraceful performance in the Stoneman Douglas shooting has been a master class in evasion of responsibility, is the latest entry in why we don’t trust our public institutions.

It’s hard to imagine a more comprehensive and catastrophic failure from beginning to end than that of the sheriff’s office in the Parkland massacre. It ignored warnings that were specific and chilling about the shooter, and at least one of its deputies waited outside the school while the shooting occurred (and perhaps others did as well in the immediate aftermath).

Sheriff Israel appropriately pronounced himself disgusted with the deputy, who has lost his job. But asked in an interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper on Sunday if he acknowledges that had his department acted differently, the shooter might have been foiled, the sheriff responded with a flip rhyme, “ifs and buts and candy and nuts.”

It’s not as though the sheriff, mindful of the need to get a handle on his department’s conduct, has been quietly tending his own shop. At the CNN town hall last week, he turned in a crowd-pleasing performance. He opined about the new authorities that the police require and joined in lambasting National Rifle Association spokeswoman Dana Loesch to cheers from the audience.

Sheriff Scott Israel battling calls to resign as blame shifts in wake of FL high school shooting

A few immediately understood that this agreement is at the root of the school shooting

However, when you examine the program you will find that it is a systemic problem intertwined in the system. It is a sanctuary program for criminal behavior which was endorsed and signed by the school district, BSO, the circuit judge, the State Atty’s office (sitting in Broward), local NAACP, Juvenile justice system, etc. And the city of Ft. Ldle.

[Did you notice that the LEO (Coral Springs Police) that did rush in to stop the gunman and save the wounded from bleeding-out were NOT signers of this agreement. Those officers that rushed in were not under any orders to Stand Down because they are employed by CSPD as opposed to BSO.]

They all collaborated and agreed upon this and it is being pushed upon other school districts across the country. Harvard U. has heralded this ‘Stop the school pipeline to Prison program.’

Clearly this IS a product of Obama and his ilk.

Truly... Scott Israel is sicker than you think. His three children just graduated from the same high school of the massacre. This was his family’s school they spent a lot of time.

Israel has triplets: Brett, Blake and Blair. Brett was the junior starting quarterback for Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School, Blake was a midfielder for the lacrosse team and a safety on the football team and Blair was a sprinter on the track team before hurting her foot.

Rest assured, this leniency towards a threatening menacing student would not have been tolerated if Israel’s kids were still in attendance. Can you imagine? And the BSO would have raced to save lives and stop the shooter, not stand idly by and spectate.

How would Sheriff Israel have dealt with Cruz if his daughter-Blair was the one being hit and threatened by Cruz? He would have been expelled if he threw a chair at her or tried to sell the sheriff’s son some knives at lunch time. You betcha!

Israel should resign, but the real blame is on the policy of Obama and his idiot liberal fascist supporters in Florida. Governor Scott needs to make this right ASAP!

The sheriff should just get out of town? Rich Lowry is a kindly old liberal do-gooder, then, and part of the swamp. The sheriff should be investigated with the intent to charge him with gross negligence in office, resulting in homicide.

The sheriff should be ridden out of town. Not on a rail, but in a Department of Corrections vehicle taking him to the State Penitentiary at Raiford.

I knew Israel was a POS when he decided at the CNN ‘town hall’ not to quite down the crowd after they called the NRA spokesperson a murderer.

Any responsible Law Enforcement Professional would have demanded that from the Crowd but Israel just feed off their anger and outrageous behavior like the pimp he is.

Go and ask the Democrats of Broward County why they voted for this man.

See if any of them say,

“Because I wanted a reduction of crime!”

They voted for him because he had “(D)” after his name.

Well put... and oh, so true.

Alas, Scott Israel is nothing more than a political hack who wants to pour gasoline on the fire of his party's choosing.

I am reading through the debate on the Constitution, the papers of Brutus, Cato, etc.

The anti-Federalists argue that having a strong government will inevitably lead to corruption, oppression, and the elimination of liberty. The Federalists say that this is ridiculous, in order to have any government at all, someone must have the power to act.

Now it’s 230 years later. The police supposedly have power, but are afraid to act because they don’t want to be accused of being oppressive.

Suppose the sheriff had investigated Cruz after receiving all these complaints, and said yes, he’s a nut all right, let’s take away his guns. We would have heard an enormous outcry about how the sheriff is violating this innocent boy’s 2nd amendment rights, and how abusive and oppressive the police are. This definitely saps the confidence of the police, and all authority. They don’t want to be accused of abuses, so they do nothing.

Everytime Israel opens his mouth, something nonsensical comes out. Hard to believe this guy got elected to protect people and enforce the law. The Broward voters must be pretty dumb......electing Israel, Debbie w/s and that black woman who thinks she's a cowgirl.

On CNN, Sheriff Israel told Jake Tapper the PROMISE Program gives the school the ability under certain circumstances not to call the police, not to get the police involved on misdemeanor offenses and take care of it within the school. Israel said "It’s an excellent program. It’s helping many, many people.”

Tapper asked him: "What if he does something violent to a student? What if he takes bullets to school? What if he takes knives to schools? What if he threatens the lives of fellow students?”

Without flinching, Israel says: “Then he goes to jail,”

Tapper responded in amazement, “But that’s not what happened with the shooter.”

The student was given a pass....so he decides to shoot up the school and kill 17 kids......and Israel still doesnt get it......it's b/c HE AND THE PD failed.

If Broward county would elect Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Alcee Hastings, they’ll also elect someone such as this to be sheriff. It proves that you get what you vote for. The people that worked and voted for people of this ilk are the root cause.

via DailyCaller:
“Curiously, police also lost radio communications during the parkland shooting. And our source claims that radio communication also went dead during the Fort Lauderdale airport shooting in 2017 that he also got a lot of criticism for.”

Broward County is approaching sh*thole status. Many of the normal people have been forced to move to Northward Counties up the coast.

"We would have heard an enormous outcry about how the sheriff is violating this innocent boy’s 2nd amendment rights, and how abusive and oppressive the police are."

I don't think that would be the case. As soon as it was know that there were many investigation into this boy's behavior, the public (including myself as a lifetime NRA Member) would have supported the measure to remove any Firearms from his possession.

What we should really have is a procedure for law enforcement officers to present the evidence they gathered to a judge, who can then rule on whether an individual should be allowed to have guns or not.

Naturally, such a procedure might be abused, but so might any other procedure.

As for the outcry, I don’t mean guys like you, but loudmouths on the social media who think everything is a conspiracy and the police are controlled by George Soros and the Freemasons.

And many if not most in FR would have joined in that outcry.

And it also brings up the issue of limits on free speech. Should one be free to say “I’m going to shoot up a school”?
