America Could Cut Immigration by 90 Percent & Retain 100 Percent of the Economic Benefits

Applying the Pareto Principle to the Immigration Debate

Have you ever noticed that most of the people you work with are useless? Sure they seem busy, but most of them get precious little done. In fact, some of even them end up making work for model employees, like you—don’t they?

If you’ve experienced this, then you understand how the Pareto Principle works—you just didn’t know it had a name. Also known as the 80:20 rule, the Pareto Principle stands for the idea that causality is not always linear: that is, there is not always a one-to-one relationship between cause and effect; instead, the exceptional few are to thank for producing the majority of output.

In his book Outliers, author and columnist Malcolm Gladwell notes that the business world is dominated by outliers—the exceptional few. Consider how the market capitalization of America’s biggest companies follows a non-linear distribution, ie. the Fortune 500 are worth more than the countless millions of smaller businesses.

Another classic example is the distribution of wealth: the top 20 percent of households own 77 percent of all wealth in America. Interestingly, Pareto distributions are often fractal in nature, meaning that they look the same no matter what scale you view them. For example, the wealth distribution in the top 20 percent of households resembles the distribution of the whole—the top 4 percent of earners control ~80 percent of the wealth, and so on and so forth.

Why am I telling you this? Because the Pareto Principle is a very powerful but often ignored political tool. Let’s apply Pareto to the immigration debate. On the one hand, pro-immigration publications like The Economist argues that immigration grows the economy. This is undoubtedly true, but it’s not the whole story.

America needs a twenty year moratorium on all immigration.

From everywhere.

Absurd! "Immigration" is not the problem...

The massive "migrant invasion" is the problem!

We could cut immigration by 99.9%.

Then, aggressively recruit the 1,000 smartest and most energetic 25 year old STEM and business graduates in the world.

Then, get 100 times the economic benefit we are currently getting.

“If Democrats honestly support immigration for economic reasons, then immigration should be a bipartisan issue in light of this data. “

Honesty and democrats should never be used in the same sentence.

I agree entirely. Unfettered immigration, even legal immigration is becoming a burden on the nations infrastructure , our roads, schools, hospitals and our job market. We can’t take in everyone who wants to come here. We ain’t Motel 6 for the whole freaking world.

The question is, which “economic benefits”? Unchecked immigration is a government bureaucracy’s dream come true, a source of countless jobs (with the platinum benefits private-sector workers haven’t seen in decades) with no stipulation that those receiving the “services” (public education, food stamps, government housing) contribute anything towards their own upkeep. The party of massive government sees economic benefits through that prism, while the party representing working taxpayers sees it as some theft of private-sector jobs, but most importantly, the theft of tax revenue to pay for the losers of the Third World. The big government party wants these imports to bolster the dwindling number of welfare voters in this country.

I am with you on this and have said it for years.

Why do we need other countries brightest and smartest (according to the gubermint) when we have them here. If our school system was not teaching the three Ls of Liberlism (Lie, Loot and Lennin) and went back to teaching the original three Rs our Country could and would raise them AGAIN.

I am going to leave the morality issue discussion for another day but we do not need the rest of the world to sustain our Country

My town (and my state of NJ) aren’t getting the best and brightest from anywhere; nowadays those types tend to stay home and administer their own countries. What we get are useless consumers cast out by their own elites to clear land down there, with the goal of having their braceros send remittances back down as well. American taxpayers are adopting Third Worlders by the millions, and any complaining are tagged as “racist”.

I believe that is called the lottery system. These countries line up the worse of the worse and send them to us. What I was referring to were these businesses that outsource our brain trusts to H1B visas and once these are trained and working for a lower wage, the US Citizen is let go.

Happens at the big corps like, Dow, IBM and Apple. Like this new facility Apple is going to build. You can bet the majority of the people they hire will be hired from overseas. Of course, the big announcement has been made that it has created all of these jobs. BS

Mass legal immigration is treason.

"The researchers also found that immigration contributes to wage stagnation for American workers. This point should be obvious to anyone familiar with the law of supply and demand: a relatively bigger labor supply means lower wages, just as a relatively large supply of apples means cheaper apples. This is consistent with other studies done by the Center for Immigration Studies, which found that mass (especially illegal) immigration is one of the primary reasons wages for black Americans have stagnated."

The H1B scheme is horrible, and a huge deterrent to young Americans considering college. These foreigners are no longer just in tech; they are filling the financial sector as well. A friend that works for a large investment firm describes the methodical replacement of Americans with Indians; they were filling housing subdivisions, and openly displacing Americans in the office.

My friend described how as a supervisor, when he was told he had to cut staff he would look throughout the firm for other spots for his people; eventually he was pulled aside and told discretely that he was defeating the purpose of the whole scheme (since they wanted to get rid of the American workers, not move them).

We uncertainly should. Then we vote for an “America First” president and are told we are hateful because the assorted deviants, foreigners, and misfits on the left are exposed as the burdens and obstacles they are.
