In the wake of this months school shooting in Parkland, Fla., Detroit Police Chief James Craig said he is open to the idea of some teachers being armed with guns in classrooms.
Certainly, there should be a very thorough vetting process, ... When I talk about vetting, I mean someone who is trained, someone who is responsible, the rigors associated with someone in a school environment. It could be an ex-military, ex-police officer; some of those folks are teachers, as an example.
Craig likened the vetting process to that of airlines following the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, in that some pilots not all are allowed to carry weapons after a vetting process.
...
Arming teachers could help reduce response time during school shootings, Craig said.
One thing we do know with these mass shooting incidents, they happen within four and six minutes, Craig said. (When) the police have been notified, the fastest the police can be there is within a few minutes to eight minutes. So by that time, the unfortunate tragedies are there, the carnage has happened. So this is about the business of mitigating a threat. I would never suggest that every teacher should have a gun in a classroom, but it needs to be a vetting process.

That would certainly help turn the tide.
Then they better be prepared to use it or the students will disarm them.

You ,mean like the Broward County Sheriff’s School Resource Officer in last week’s shooting? Twenty-seven years as a SRO, and he ran away from the kids he was supposed to protect. Just a chicken$hit LEO.
“Then they better be prepared to use it or the students will disarm them.”
The school in Parkland would have been better served if some of the kids were armed! “sheriff” Scott Israel should be driven from office.
How this man was ever hired to be the chief of Portland Maine is baffling, but he credits his time here with helping to form his views that an armed responsible citizenry helps deter crime. We have relatively few homicides in Portland and Maine. Many of them do not involve a gun.
I wonder if a law was passed stating that all schools who use Federal funding could not be gun free zones, if this school shooter problem would all but disappear?
Everyone should be armed.
“Police Chief James Craig said he is open to the idea of some teachers being armed with guns in classrooms...”
The tide is turning against the anti-freedom, anti-gun communists. That tide will become a flood as the democrat traitors are exposed as supporters of mass murder in schools.
First we give them guns, then full on equipment, then arrest powers.
Is it not telling? CNN and the democrat party are busy using the survivors of the killing of 17 school students as useful idiots to get the NRA ad the Republicans. Every effort is directed to it. This killing is nothing more than a new political opportunity. Yippeeee, it bleeds, it leads and all that.
Meanwhile, on the ground, the most at risk and exposed are busy doing exactly what common sense dictates. They are securing the most vulnerable targets which are our schools. Those schools have been left vulnerable by years and years of leftist policies.
The left is screaming for banning guns and in the real world the schools, the last place they want to see guns, are getting them. I wonder who is really winning (he asked rhetorically).
I think all the students should be fit with shock collars with a central command that has eyes in every classroom.
Any visitors should be strip searched before allowed through bullet proof doors.
In Detroit and all the other Progressive ghettos for self defense.
When I attended Osborn High School in Detroit in 1975 and 1976, there was a Detroit Police Officer on duty at all times of the school day
