Speaking at a press conference, Florida Governor Rick Scott has unveiled his plan to prevent another school attack like the one that claimed 17 lives in Parkland, Florida. Governor Scott pledged his support for a gun violence restraining order, raising the minimum age to purchase any type of firearm to 21, banning bump fire stocks and putting a police officer in every school.
So, will cities only hire cops who are 21?
And none of those laws would have had any impact on the shooting.
Especially the “cops in all schools” because they had cops there and they did zip.
You will soon have to be 21 or older to shoot up schools.
Not surprised.
What about metal detectors, you know, like the kind at the courthouse???
What’s a gun restraining order?
Politicians grandstand
Legislators have to pass the laws
They are liabke to their constituents
Nothing about mental health intervention on families that make 39 calls for police?
Does anyone remember that Columbine happened during the height of the Assault Weapons Ban?
3,000 students show up for school, the line would take hours to get thru. Belt buckles, and backpack metal would set off.
Total number of public schools in FL = 4,270
Average salary for rank of patrolman = $50,000
Minimum cost to state = $213,500,000
not including training, overtime, seniority raises, premiums, insurance, benefits, etc. etc. etc.
That's when anybody can accuse you of anything in front of the right judge, and your 2A rights go *poof* for the years and $$ it takes to prove yourself innocent.
gun violence restraining order,” is very bad. It is just asking for abuse.
the 21 age limit is bad.
the rest can be negotiated.
Scott is going to run for Senate, hopefully, and replace Bill Nelson. This may be an opening gambit.
That’s state wide......... Okay, let’s see
Bank guards, armored cars, police, state troopers, security guards, pawn shops, ....wait, I’ll think up more......
They could always expand the TSA's mission to include schools - they do such a good job at airports...
What gets me is we have all this money for sports - stadiums, etc. (my high school stadium in Missouri cost 5 million $) but we don’t have any money to keep kids from getting killed? What’s more important? Fine, cut back on sports and provide security instead.
Involuntary commitment of this guy to mental health institution when his mother who regused to press charges was obviously not in control
That would bave taken him off the streets for a couple of years anyway and cleaned out his punk arsenal of legal and illegal weapons - maybe flagged him as the violent threat that everyone in the community knew he was
I don’t think we need metal detectors, but we need armed guards. The father who spoke at the WH made sense. Once we had 9/11 they fixed airports. When guitarist Dimebag Darrell was killed on stage, most clubs started heavy screenings.
