Please don't take offense because none is intended, but... Say WHAT??

I hope you're mistaken about this and that your NRA training instructor was firing shots into the ground somewhere.

Firing a handgun or rifle into the air is a BIG BIG safety violation. That bullet's gotta come down somewhere, maybe a mile away...

(Please don't do this at home...)

Bullets fired straight up aren’t a concern. They’ll go up, they’ll come down at terminal velocity. It’s the one at an angle launched like artillery that can be an issue.

I should have been a little more careful in my wording. It was at the targets but the way he was shooting seemed like gun fire was coming from everywhere.
