“I don;t want some cowboy from out of town charging into my school with a weapon.”

In America, “cowboy” is a compliment. Cowboys are the good guys. Sheepdogs, not sheep.

Many people, it seems, think that your average citizen is a bozo who will spaz out and somehow make the worst possible situation even worse.

Hate to break it to you, but many police are undertrained and only get to the range to qual once or twice a year due to budgets. While some states CCW holders are not even required to shoot to get a permit, like UTah, others are more trained and prepared than most police. It depends entirely on the individual to be as trained and prepared as they can be. So I wouldn’t put any more faith in a govt trained school teacher or local cop than a random CCW holder.

One difference however, as a CCW holder, outside of myself and family, I have no obligation to get involved. If I walked into a store and see a man pointing a gun at someone, my first instinct might be to walk back out and just call 911. After all he may be a legal CCW holder himself with his gun on a robber. I don’t know initially. Pulling my gun my make the situation worse. As for LEOs and armed school staff, they should have the obligation to respond. Especially if they are trained at tax payer expense.

It's all a matter of the policies within the agency I guess? My older brother retired a few years ago after 33 years in law enforcement. Never drew his gun in the line of duty but still had to qualify on the range every month.

Argyle ISD in Texas has a training program for teachers and staff who wish to become school marshals. After being screened and tested they fire an average of 900 rounds during that training period.

School safety is a local matter and is best handled there in my opinion. But the Colorado Faster program shows some promise of being adopted elsewhere in America. I believe some Ohio school districts are adopting it?

If we care about our children we need to get proactive on the local level about their defense in school.

"Sorry, but I don't think that is a good idea"

"National reciprocity is not a good idea?"

-----------------------

You took my post out of context. I don't think an out-of-towner with a CCW should be charging into a school during an incident. I don't know how he would even know the facts about what was happening or how it was occurring if he was driving down the street?

National reciprocity is good; getting into a breaking incident with gun drawn at a school (unless you were law enforcement asked to lend aid) is a bad idea.

Wait a minute, Princess Grey Beaver told me there wasn’t a single teacher anywhere that wanted to carry a gun.

Is she wrong or is she lying?
